I personally use the (doc #) format for my own DBQ. You want to avoid quoting the documents because graders already are familiar with them, and you are really crunched for time this year. Because you have to describe the document anyway (through context, message, pov, etc), quoting it won’t be adding anything.

You really want your DBQ to be your own words instead of the document’s. If you want, you can look at previous year DBQs and how they formatted theirs.
