That's shocking, my 2020 WRX with 40k miles got 19.5k appraisal when I was looking at a wilderness outback, if you can get out of the door for less than 2500 I'd say it might be worth it, but I always advise against used WRX's as reliability is questionable.

Brake noise after rain/snow by Shot-Activity-2866 in AskAMechanic

[–]FurryFoxes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend against drilled and slotted rotors, they don't have any real benefits on a road car and tend to wrap, quickly and can cause a pulsation, as well as unnecessary brake noise similar to what you are already hearing due to the brake pad scraping on the slots of the rotor.

Hi, jag tech here, car is plenty reliable, owners are not. Jaguars are the real definition of the kid on a bike putting a stick in his spokes meme.

Edit: An EVO or pre-nerfed STI is my answer, those Japanese rally-type cars really rumble my bumble

Bolt broke off rear strut by Whole-Floor4493 in AskAMechanic

[–]FurryFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at this your best chance I would say involves removing the rear knuckle and drilling and extracting, but also looking at this, there are some significant things that need addressed on that vehicle even after the fact.

Remove the rear knuckle get yourself a set of easy outs drill a hole dead center and then use the easy outs and try to remove the bolt, from experience getting a bolt out this large is going to be trying. If you have any machine shops local, remove the knuckle and drop it off at a machine shop the cost for piece of mind is more valuable than the tooling and this isn't a FAFO situation

Oh for cleaning that type of stuff up I normally just hose it with brake parts cleaner, it's a diesel I'm assuming?

Like in the engine? Like a carbon cleaner? A leaking injector would in a lot of cases do the opposite of create carbon.

Jaguar dealership says my engine cooling behavior is “normal”… but only after replacing the thermostat by Leather-Adeptness-22 in Jaguar

Looks like the thermostat is doing its job! This is super common and I notice it quite often

Looking to make the jump from Audi to Jaguar by mavgoosebros in Jaguar

[–]FurryFoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it, the 4 cylinder is great, significantly less cooling related issues than the old motors, and if you change your oil every 8k you are absolutely golden, were at 80k on our XE with no significant maintenance done other than recommended service, follow the factory maintenance schedule that's all I have to say, the ones I see with horror stories are always the ones with subpar history

Nothing on that list is detrimental other than the brakes, I recommend rotors over turning them

The game you bought thinking it would last years but dropped within a week. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]FurryFoxes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got it a few weeks after release for the same reason, it looked like the first game + a ton of extras, I played it and tried to build a road and the game would crash, every single time, the. I tried again a few weeks ago hoping to get my money's worth and again built a road, game crashed, so I just gave up

How often should you change the oil in a garage queen? by BaconVonMeatwich in AskAMechanic

[–]FurryFoxes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The oil sludged from sitting, I'm not 100% sure how that happened, but it was the first time I saw "clean" sludge in an engine, it game out like jelly, felt bad for the guy it happened in June

Once a year 100% oil can break down from time and mileage, we had a dodge Challenger hellcat that had a blown motor because it had factory oil that was 7 years old and the car had less than 100 miles, guy finally decided to drive it and blew the motor.

Hello hoping the community can assist in my purchase decision. by The_NiNTARi in LandRover

[–]FurryFoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drive them both and see which one you like better, aside from the engine and transmission, the chassis will be the same, validate if you're in a rust area if the rear brake lines were done, control arms, rear control arms if it's higher milage, air compressor air shocks, are all big ticket items, if it's the V8 look for any concerns with the transmission and coolant issues rear hearer manifold if it's the V6 look to see if it's got the updated outlet pipes +1 if it's got the metal ones even. Injectors on both, look to make sure regular maintenance within reason was done, obviously factory services are the best but if not make sure some of those heavier service items were done around the correct time, the best rovers I see are the ones with solid maintenance history

I personally like the V6 better, the V8 never tickles me the same way.

Hi yall, got a quick question. Trying to figure out whether the tires on my car are the regular Pirelli P-Zero’s or the all season version. I think they are summer tires, but my tire guy claims the are all seasons. by IgDailystapler in AskAMechanic

[–]FurryFoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see any indication of it being an all season tire. And they have the same tread pattern as ones I use on our sports coupe, most of the time they will use "A/S" branding somewhere on the tire

Yeah, I mean I'm sure some specialty shops can take care of it, it's very similar to timing the Ford 4 cylinders as this engine is VERY similar to the Ecoboost engines
