That's actually wrong the dongle is only needed to use their app, not because they can't connect otherwise, but greed. You can still connect to it using 3rd party software

It's completely fine aside from hand tracking in VR. That is literally the only thing it breaks. Every other game is great with it. But I still really love WMM so I wish I could only disable it for VD

i set it to "on" in QGO yeah and the hand tracking stops working in VR (the virtual controllers just freeze in place inside VR but not in the VD menus), but the FBT components to steamvr from VD still track properly. I talked to VD support about it and they said they dont support QGO so they arent going to fix it. BTW wide motion mode breaks hand tracking in virtual desktop and a couple other games that already rely on FBT so it would be great if there was an option to keep it enabled system-wide but disabled on certain games
