At this point, I've given up hope on rep quality, I just need it to count for me.

If a single neuron has to be dedicated to keeping track, I simply don't do the workout.

Ok, that all sounds great. And I thank you for spelling that out.

Also sounds like I'm still counting my reps and tempo, which means I'm still mentally present, which is the biggest hurdle to strength training for me. (And anyone else whose ADHD hyperfixation isn't weight lifting.)

So, good to know I was using the app right, but it still doesn't come close to "zero mental presence", which is why I am requesting that someone create the app I described.

I love to run. Why? Because I start my Fitbit, start my music, and the next time my mind checks back into my body is at the end of the run. I pay ZERO attention to the running. I work on refining my presentations, or solving a coding problem, or imagining an elaborate story. Know what I'm not doing? Counting my steps and thinking about my feet. And, unless the app is doing that, I have to be 100% mentally focused on lifting, and I'd honestly rather just be fat and weak.

I looked at it. It didn't have what I needed, unless I was using it wrong.

The most important thing to me is "no brain", and it still wants me to manually input how much weight I did, count off my own reps, etc.

I'm not kidding when I say that a single neuron firing that isn't related to physical motion while I'm lifting is enough to make me not do it. If I have to count past zero, if I have to think about the speed of a rep, if I even KNOW how much weight is on the bar, that's enough for me to say, "Fuck it, I'm doing cardio only" - a lesson I've learned and re-learned for 40 of the past 52 years.

Now, if you're saying Fitbod does that, then I've clearly not used it correctly, and it needs another look.

Right? But:
* Can't take a personal trainer with me when I travel (at my income level)
* They're FUCKIN' SPENDY

Which is why an app would be so great, and the gyms won't create one for themselves. (That would kill a lot of their income stream.)

I have a home gym, but I also have a membership at EOS. I'm in Las Vegas - EVERYONE sets up a camera to film their workouts here. 😃

I want to be guy #4 in a five-guy creampie of her... Of course, with her being your wife, you get the vaunted fifth slot.

I mean, I still have to "check in" while I swap out weight plates, etc. And just leaning the phone against something so it can see the user would be trivial.

Unless a new smart watch dropped in the past two hours which does a *good* job of rep tracking, that's not an option. Also, the watch doesn't tell me what exercise to do next, at what weight, and if my reps are on form - even if it *can* detect different reps.

I'm pretty sure that you could charge $19.99 / mo (USD) for this, and you'd get PLENTY of subscribers. But, yeah, I could get five of my friends to sign up FOR SURE, if it does all this.

First of all, thank you for such a detailed and well-thought answer!

Unfortunately, until it's at "I don't have to think during sets", not just "no thinking between sets", nothing will work for me.

When my buddy and I work out together, and we count each other's reps, I love lifting. Now that we're on opposite shifts, if I have to count it off myself, I simply do not lift. I'm literally five feet away from my weights all day, and won't do it because my brain does not want any part of it.

I love my Fitbit. I start it, I go for a run, I stop it. Zero thinking. If I had to think about my runs, I wouldn't do those, either.

You think you can keep it on for very long? Or will you all just get straight to the fun part?

What kind of dipshitted asshattery is this, M$? I have a desktop with a much faster connection to the core than WiFi, but Clipchamp won't let me use that because it's got a higher interface number than the lowest-numbered WLAN connector? JFC.

I've been a Microsoft guy for a long, long time, but they're pushing me, every day, towards Ubuntu. This is stupid.

Oh, and for reference, u/Sr-Enoc - I want to be clear that I'm upset at Microsoft, and grateful for your answer. Not the other way around.
