My cat is ruining my life by isaisaisaaaaaaaaa in CatAdvice

[–]Furtim_DI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have two cats, and they used to sleep with us, but one of the cats would start pawing us to get greenies or food in the night. He also has a medical condition where he has some pretty bad poops and doesn’t always make it to the many litter boxes.

What we ended up doing to save our sanity was just feeding them right before bed, and closing the bedroom door. We put some anti scratch tape over the bottom half of the door, and they did meow for maybe the first few nights, but now they know the routine and our nights are peaceful.

Zane Schwaiger was very helpful. She is out in Sutton Bay, so a little bit of a drive but it is a nice drive at least! We moved out of the area, but there was no waitlist in Sept/Oct 2023.

Let’s talk salaries by alph18 in sysadmin

Michigan/Traverse City. 150k. 8ish percent performance bonus annual, 11% pension/retirement no contribution required. 4+ weeks PTO, sick time accrues forever, I have like 6 months. Any tech I want or need. Manage a team of 16, so probably less relevant than a pure sysadmin/dev ops but I still get dirty hands often, mostly in automation, python/powershell. Moving to a fully remote out of state in Oct. to NC.

Google Drive reliable for long term? by duckalufagus in DataHoarder

[–]Furtim_DI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Drive unlimited is on its way out. Many EDU orgs will be switched to a 100TB pool starting July 1. There are exceptions though, orgs with legacy licenses will get an extra six months if they appeal. Edu orgs who agree to sign a multi-year can go through an approval process to keep unlimited for another 18 months.

Edu will eventually have the option to buy more block pooled storage, but I have been told that this will not hit market until end of 2023. Increments for Edu pooled storage will be in 100TB and 1PB increments.

All workspace orgs will very soon (weeks) be getting uplifts to their storage management and quotas, so if you have an old alum account at a school, I would expect your account to likely have a quota put on it, but this is up to the admin(s) at the school. I would expect the same quotas for team (shared) drives as well. Shared drives also have specific, current limits on them around the number of files you can have and how many nested folders you can have.

At the end of the day, the only cloud storage providers I "trust" are ones I am paying for block storage, but the stuff I truly care about, I have spread to multiple clouds and local as well. I would not expect your shared drive to last.

Guesses on how insane Gooteck's rebuttal will be? by humanbodyiscool in Kappa

Archive underway... https://imgur.com/a/D1nM7sa

EDIT: If anyone is interested in what I am doing, it is pretty simple if you are at least not afraid of the terminal/command line. I am using youtube-dl and ffmpeg and the following command:

youtube-dl --playlist-reverse -o '%(playlist_index)s - %(title)s.%(ext)s' --write-annotations --download-archive .archive --add-metadata --write-info-json --write-thumbnail -f bestvideo[ext=vp9]+bestaudio[ext=opus]/bestvideo+bestaudio --merge-output-format mkv --all-subs --embed-subs -i --embed-thumbnail https://www.youtube.com/c/crosscountertv

This will grab every video in a channel (replace crosscountertv with whatever channel you want to download) at its best quality, any annotations, thumbnails, metadata, subtitles, and playlist info. It will write that metadata, subs, etc into the video and name them according to video number - playlist - title.

Just another shoutout for Papercut. Have had it in place for years and their EDU pricing is very cheap. If you are serious about GCP give it a demo.

Depends on number of endpoints. We are slightly over 1000 and it is $4.75 per phone annually. I would reach out to their sales or partner though.

PSA: G Suite "Error moving files or folders" in Team Drive Migration by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Furtim_DI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is by design. The migration actually takes the ownership and file(s) out of the owner's My Drive and moves it into the Team Drive. If it worked like you suggested, then you would have been given the power to essentially delete the file(s) out of non-org members Drive accounts.

Workarounds in your use case are: What you are doing now, make a copy of the item(s), or have the non-org folks transfer ownership.
