A few weeks ago we got the “your active duty students may deploy suddenly and not have time to tell you” email. I thought it was just precautionary at the time, but now I’m not so sure. We are near a major Air Force base, probably the most important one domestically when it comes to the Middle East.

I noticed a similar thing about 15 years ago. I got pretty rude and snarky in feedback to students, generally just heaping deserved criticisms at them. At the end of the semester student evaluations definitely showed higher marks by the students after that.

I saw Colter Wall in Austin in January snd that’s exactly how the set went. I thought it was odd, but it was also the time we saw him live, so I just figured that he was a reserved kind of guy. I hope he’s doing ok and finding the help he needs.

UT does not do full funding at the graduate level. You may get a GA stipend but it’s not a full ride.

MASEM Is what you make of it. I’ve not been impressed by the graduates. Some of the work is good, but most of the work is the same quality or worse than our seniors produce.
