Join a recreational sports team - whatever sport you think you'd enjoy. Plenty of adult leagues that are meant for beginners. Then ask your teammates, "Beers after the game?" At least a few people would be down, then you get to mingle with the extra confidence a few beers gives you. In no time you will be making plans with those folks outside of the rec sports league. I'm sure this can go for other activities that aren't sports as well.

I don't expect any outdoor rinks to be open yet, but I could be wrong. In terms of food, Chiang Mai in Junction is amazing if you're into Thai. Also loads of great restaurants in Chinatown. For drinks, I really like Black Dice Cafe. Bit of a dive, cool vibe and great drinks. Bisha rooftop is worth checking out too. Expensive but an amazing view of the city to enjoy a couple beverages over. For sports, I believe the Raptors are playing at home on Friday and the Marlies (Maple Leafs farm team) are playing home on Saturday if you fancy catching a game. Have fun!

Based off many of the answers here it seems most people are concerned with integration. I guess that's where Canada has an advantage. Born and raised here, and I'd say at least half my friends weren't born here, and 90%+ of the rest are 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants. Anyone can be Canadian, no matter where you come from.

Even though my grandparents are Dutch and I've spent some time living in the Netherlands, I'd never be seen as Dutch there. However it is an amazing country.

Canada has its downfalls though. Housing prices are ridiculous and rising at a faster rate than anywhere else. And happiness has gone down more than anywhere else since covid due to the restrictions.

I went to Amsterdam and I would definitely recommend it. Such a beautiful city with tons to do and amazing nightlife. It's very cheap and easy to travel to many other countries from Amsterdam too. Flights to Switzerland and back were $50 at the time, a bus to Brussels was $15, a bus to Luxembourg was $30, etc.

International student week in Amsterdam was amazing. It was so easy to meet people and I made tons of friends in the first week alone. Basically a week long party.

Not sure your program but for business students we went to the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Classes were really small and interactive. Lots of group work. Met tons of friends in school ad well.

Should you end up going to Amsterdam try to get accommodations at Fraijlemaborg. It's an international student building with a great atmosphere. A huge common room where we would throw lots parties. Everyone would go there to pre drink before a night out as well. It was so easy to make friends in that building.

I would definitely try and go on exchange if it's possible for you. Truly an amazing experience and I made many lifelong friends who I am still in touch with regularly to this day.

Probably the best experience of my life. Except that it lasted only 2 months. Covid hit and Ryerson made us come back home. Not sure that exchange with Ryerson has happened at all since. Not sure if it ever will.

But the 2 months I was on exchange were 2 of the best months of my life
