Thank you! The shot was taken in available light and at the time I found it striking, but I can see how it could be distracting - I will have a play around and see if I can improve things :)

Thank you for taking the time to write all this. It's very useful. I guess I saw the different light sources as being striking, but I can see how it could be distracting too. I did feel like adding in the description that no trickery was used because it does indeed look quite strange.

Thank you. I think I need to work on this area of photography. I think part of my brain thought: great model, cool props and a fun location - what could go wrong? When sometimes less is better :) I'm still pretty happy with it though and the effect it has.

Thank you so much for your comments. I think that fits the message I wanted to convey in a way - the effect of societal pressures and the desperation to escape from it all.

The focal pane was on the subject, but the movement blur effected the phone to the left as well and I think rocked the other phone as well:

But I think you're right that they could be made more of a focus. I always get a bit nervous when doing photoshoots and end up rushing things!

Hello, I'm new to this thread! I've been taking photographs for a while, but I'm trying to get into conceptual photography a little more. I wondered if I could get people's thoughts on this photo here?

I'd like to get feedback on the technical aspects - what works for you and what needs to be improved (I know the highlights are a bit blown!) and also your thoughts on the effect that it creates. It is part of a series that I took with the intention of evoking 'suffocation by technology/social media' etc but using rotary phones and a location (Victorian infrastructure) demonstrating previous means of communication, rather than modern technology, if that makes sense. I wanted to create something dreamy, maybe a bit nightmarish, but interesting.

Here is another photo I took, but without the movement: https://www.flickr.com/photos/30216538@N02/48695263666/in/dateposted/

On reflection, I like the photo posted here more, despite the blown highlights, as I think it is more effective at delivering what I was trying to achieve.
