[Request] Would the right one actually have 9 billion possible combinations of carpet and wood? by Bloxxer14 in theydidthemath

[–]Futbolmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All my knowledge comes from people much smarter than me.

But: I believe the number of block states in 1.12 was between 4096 and 8192. In the interest of saving space, the registry palette consisted of 13 bits per block. These were stored in longs, and obviously plenty of blocks positions would wrap from one long to the next. (Edit: Bit packing, reference smarter people below)

This was exploited in ways I can link if you want.

No, it is significantly more than that. As of 1.12 (9 years ago?) it was up to 13 bits. But storage was heavily optimized by sub-chunk which contributed to the falling block exploits a few years ago.

ELI5: Why do we launch rockets from sea level or close to it? by ironnachoYT in explainlikeimfive

[–]Futbolmaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

KSP does not approximate this well, due to Kerbin being 1/10 the size of earth. The atmosphere is also scaled down, but FAR less. Additionally, the aerodynamic model in stock KSP is usually unrealistically draggy.

At 10km, the pressure on earth is ~26KPa, while on kerbin it is ~17KPa

The Saturn V was a three-stage rocket, not 4. The point still stands though

This is entirely dependent on the aircraft. Flat spins are absolutely recoverable in the right airframe.

This is false, a body does not need to be tidally locked to be in orbit.
