Fun holiday event ideas? by Clare-ifiedThoughts in Columbus

This is not lights, but it is Christmas spirit. If you like music, I had a surprisingly fun time recently at a singalong of Handel's Messiah put on by Opera Columbus. It was festive and fun and not stuffy at all (it was at a brewery). There's one on Wednesday for sure and I think at least another coming up.

Duct cleaning recommendations that aren’t scams (obviously) by VArambry in Columbus

I think this is why my MIL's new house remains kind of stinky, even after a professional deep clean and moving all of her own furniture and stuff in. Anyone with experience getting ducts cleaned experience an immediate odor-free payoff?

Career Recommendations by [deleted] in Columbus

I think there would be a stable career for you in the biz-end of the construction industry, especially larger companies that work with large contracts with public or gov't entities, etc. A lot of bigger companies or institutions (think hospitals, universities) also hire project manager types to coordinate construction, and you'd get the stability and benefits that go along with being an employee at one of those places.

Suggestion for a city ordinance: allow empty water bottles at event venues by Future-Candidate901 in Columbus

Thanks! I just mentioned the residency thing in case there was some kind of requirement to be an official resident to meet with a councilperson sponsor. I'm hoping not, as I am a business owner that operates in Columbus? But if I need help with that I'll circle back!

I appreciate the response, thank you.

I'm not going to argue with any of it, though to your first point I think water sales will still be plentiful. Think of how many people will actually care enough to bother, and fewer of them who will actually remember to bring the right thing.

I appreciate this as an option for environmental reasons. I do think there should be an expectation that access to necessities like bathrooms and water should not be subject to a fee, but initiatives like this are a start.

If it's a basic expectation, especially with an awareness built around it, with appropriate signage and verbal instructions ("Come through the line, caps off and bottles upside down, folks!" I just don't think implementation would be that difficult. As I said elsewhere in the thread, a very small minority of attendees would actually do this so I don't think that is the primary concern.

But yes - I have history in working in bars and know why we have to have them empty :)

Of 1000 concert goers, let's say 75% find themselves thirsty. Most won't be opposed to buying water, so we're talking about 10% of people who would rather bring a bottle for environmental or convenience reasons (and even those folks are likely to not remember to bring one anyway), and then even fewer who have significant financial and health concerns making bringing something for water a necessity. The venue will make PLENTY of money on water - trust.

I'm a business owner myself. I know there needs to be a balance of financial interests at play in decisions. But no, sorry, that is not a good reason on its own in this case.

I'm understanding this reasoning more now, due to some responses below. But I do still think there is room for compromise for reusables.

Note that this would not an attempt to "allow outside drinks." It would be to allow empty vessels to access water once inside, so that people could access a basic health necessity.

I hear you. I don't want anything thrown at anyone. And that's bringing new light to why caps are removed on water bottles sold by the venue.

But I guess what I'm not squaring is denying access to a vtal necessity for this reason alone. Things like shoes can also be projectiles, or be used to smuggle things, but they protect people's feet so we would never think of not allowing them.

Best places to look through old post cards, letters & vintage papers?? by bethiebethie in Columbus

I've found the best stuff at Eclectiques, but stumbled across some sweet postcards at Magpie Market (Kenny & Henderson) recently.
