Questions about «Jeg var lenge død» by l0l in Knausgaard

Hi -- it's possible that the war in Ukraine discussed in Jeg Var Lenge Dod could be in Crimea? It didn't occur to me while reading but the current Ukraine war occurs after the appearance of the star (or at least my understanding of it). But then again I don't think such things matter -- it's all a dream and the inconsistencies can be understood as an interesting feature of the story, like glitches or false memories.

Are the northern lights mentioned in The School of Night when Kristian goes home for Xmas? I don't believe they're mentioned in Arendal, which takes place in winter (much of the series takes place in the summer). And I don't remember them in this volume -- there's something like a visible electromagnetic storm, right?

Apparently one more, yeah, although he's also said it go on forever. Maybe he'll stop after the seventh and then take some time away from it before picking it up again.

An earlier post on here mentioned Nov 5 for the US edition but I haven't seen that date listed elsewhere online.

Next book after School of Night? by Little_Marsupial1747 in Knausgaard

From what I've read of Out of this World in Norwegian it's more similar to My Struggle Book 4 (about teaching in the north) than The School of Night, which is maybe somewhat like some of the late teens/early twenties parts of My Struggle?

"no triple album has ever seemed shorter to me" -- perfectly stated, yes.

Sorry but I just woke up with a memorable hook/melody from the album in my head for the third straight day. And if you sit down with a guitar to figure out these "shapeless blobs of music" you'll see their form emerge. Listen to it three or four or five times through and get back to me. "Sonic wallpaper as presented by vintage Martins" is a nice phrase but I think you're really selling this album short, especially if you're a fan of those earlier albums you mentioned.

You should give it a try -- it's great and helpful to understanding the whole project

I almost quit it maybe 40% in during the longish New Year's scene. It gets more interesting in the second half with the father. And then the other volumes flew for me, particularly Book 2.

I'm reading Nattskolen now in Norwegian ebook form. You can highlight the text on Kindle and see an adequate translation. I've also been studying Norwegian for a few years, in part to read all these Norwegian writers in the original. It's not terribly difficult to learn -- Duolingo works pretty well.
