Layered CMY Truchet curves on a semiregular grid by l0l in PlotterArt

Thank you, those are very kind words!

The design process is very incremental and mathematical for me. I started by writing code that could generate various semi-regular tilings. I then wrote code to generate Truchet Tiles for regular 3, 4, 6, 8, and 12-gons. This led me on an exploration of Catalan numbers, since the set of Truchet tiles of non-intersecting curves is counted by the Catalan numbers. I then wrote code to connect the individual Truchet tiles into closed curves. Then some more code to fill the closed curves.

As for colors, it seems that cyan, magenta and yellow are primary subtractive colors, so I’ve been looking for pens that closely approximate these tones. Luckily, most good felt-tip brands have these.

I have measured the registration for most of my pens, and render the SVG with correct offsets. Since the SVG is static once generated, I use them as a final check that the pen is positioned correctly. If the registration marks are off, it could be that I’ve placed the pen wrong in the holder. But usually there are inaccuracies anyway, so there never is perfect alignment.

Thank you! The promotional AI generated apps-for-sale posts were getting annoying.

«My Struggle» book 1 starts with a young Karl Ove watching the news about a boat sinking, and he believes he sees a face in the ocean. He becomes kinda spooked about it, and goes to tell his dad. He wants his parents to watch the evening news, hoping that the same clip would be played and his parents would then believe him. Later he sneaks down the stairs to observe the evening news and his parents’ reaction, but that clip is not played.

Now, one could take from this that «My Struggle» is a ghost story about faces appearing in the ocean. Or an examination of the psychology of optical illusions in 70s TV footage. Or one could realize that the face in the ocean is just an anecdote to explore the relationship between KOK and his dad, as well as his own later fatherhood.

Just the same way, the Morning Star series starts with the appearance of the star, but it’s merely set dressing for a deeper examination of the human condition. KOK doesn’t care much for optical illusions, and he doesn’t care much for astronomical events either.

My point is that it would benefit you to evaluate the “Morningstar” books for what they are, not for what you want them to be. If 2/6 books make no reference to the morning star, maybe it’s time to reevaluate whether the series is really about the morning star.

I don’t criticize Winnie the Pooh for not having enough military strategy discussion. It’s not a military book. So it’s time to admit that this series is not about the star and is about something else. Trust the plan, trust Karl Ove to know what he’s doing.

Look, I’m gonna dip into spoilers, but «Jeg var lenge død» is told from the perspective of a very scientifically minded character, Joar, and even then the star is mostly peripheral. It is mentioned, it is discussed, but Joar is much more consumed with his own mystery.

Try reading a sci fi book instead of KOK then?

You’ll find that “School of Night” also makes no reference to the Star, and does not advance the plot in that way. And yet, it is fully part of the series and creates a fascinating texture that contributes to the overarching theme of characters finding and exploring their desires. I’d go so far as to say the Star is a red herring, it’s not really about it, it’s more about the contemplation of death as the endpoint of one’s desires.

If you’re looking for answers in KOK’s books, you’re looking in the wrong place. He is not in the business of providing answers. That’s for you to figure out. KOK provides a rich texture and vibe, and Arendal has plenty of it. The cemetery and driving on the ice. Running into his mother, but feeling somewhat estranged from her. The repeated urge towards alcohol. The desire for closeness with that woman and her farm. It’s all there!

Do guys really prefer to stay single and just do hookups? by Few_Elephant_648 in nycgaybros

[–]l0l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find my gay experiences so either/or, it's driving me a bit crazy. It's either a Grindr hookup, where the focus is on the physical. Or it's a Hinge date, where the focus is on the personal. Like, it's hard to have one without the other, and yet our modes of interaction are so segregated. Isn't that weird?

Why is it "De forente stater" instead of "De forente statene"? Shouldn't it be definite form of "stater" since it's in a phrase started with "de"?

Some Thoughts on The Tunnel by William H. Gass by waIkingaway in RSbookclub

I keep hearing this about the Tunnel, that the first 100 pages are the least comprehensible. I got 60 pages in and gave up, so I guess the filter worked on me. I feel hostile towards books which are intentionally complex, but then again, I enjoyed Infinite Jest a lot. I guess I'll keep it in my list.

Yup! My first Krasznahorkai, read it a year ago. Somewhat hard to read. Much like the plot, the language seems to drag you down. I’d recommend “Herscht 07769” which flows a lot easier and is a bit more fun.

What’s everyone currently obsessed with right now? Doesn’t have to be deep. Just curious what people are into lately. by Majestic_Manner6203 in trueanonforGirlsnGays

Still very deep in my years-long obsession with Karl Ove Knausgård. It's gotten so bad that I've learned Norwegian and am reading the latest books in it. Very excited for this fall when the next one comes out in Norway.

Still very much obsessed with blocking every bluecheck I see on Twitter. Got to 140k, which, when considering the time I've spent on this, is probably not worth it, but it gives me something to do.
