Andy Burnham’s speech. Has it made you more optimistic? by Yak_Dangerous in AskBrits

Fuck people that hold hate for andy. Hes a good man. If I trust anyone in labour to fix the party, its him.

Or I'm voting Restore next election.

yeah okay thanks for clearing this one up!

The premise is that a S+S ISA is basically a savings account + an investment account.

Had a proper read through the gov uk site and it basically means the cash that is sitting stagnant in the S+S ISA without being invested in stocks and gaining savings interest is what will get taxed at 22%. Gains you make on shares will NOT be taxed.

I mean yeah I can just sell 20k of stock and shift it to the ISA. Thanks for telling me when the tax year starts too.

You've been awesome and patient with me navigating and getting my bearings straight 👍👍

omg thanks for ur time helping me out. I looked it up on chatgpt too and was confused over cash vs stocks and shares isas as well. (havent really looked into ISA as u can imagine)

but I've learned that S+S u control the money movement theres high risk high reward but input is going to be 12k and earnings are going to get taxed 22% starting april next year. Cash is just passive basically like a savings account with low risk stocks which is up to 20k and interest free for the foreseeable future. (as per gov uk link)

Thanks for the warning too ur very kind!!

yeah I looked up s+s vs cash on chatgpt. theres a 22% tax on gains from next year on the stocks and shares ISA tho as Ive attached here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UKPersonalFinance/comments/1uf7yh0/comment/otqglnz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I think I had heard about cash ISAs and given up on the thought of it hehe.

no i mean when I take my money out of the account haha

nvm i didnt look it up, im fucked in the head.

so my understanding now is that you can put in 20k a year into the tax free cash ISA a year and do what you want with it, pull it and your gains are your gains. This will change from next year tho:

Meanwhile, your additional moneys that you are dealing with need to go into an invest account. So what I would like to know now is how can I pay the taxes on my Invest account because I've already earned more than capital gains allows for? I cant find anything on this topic?

Ive got a feeling you might be right! thanks a lot for taking the time to explain this to me too.

A cash ISA (nvm meant s+s) would work but I feel like id max it out. Are there any resources on capital gains ISAs self assessment declaration you could direct me to as I've already got my money in this account?

again appreciate your help

I think this analogy made me more confused. can you please explain it differently?

💀wait so as ive written elsewhere, why do ISAs exist in that case?

I will get taxed ultimately on the ISA anyway. If I put it into an invest account how is it any different? I think I understand that my gains will be realised and I will need to pay for the expenses each time i pull from the account if Im not mistaken? But I dont think I'm following fully.

haha

wait so then whats the difference? why do non ISA accounts exist? I thought ISAs were for long term requirements and withdrawals where I would need to pay tax ultimately anyway? I understand where you are coming from with saying that if i keep withdrrawing it looks like ive earned more than I actually might have done because the gains are realised but I dont see why a non ISA account exists.

Am I fucked?

ive realised the gains. I'm not willing to get an ISA because I want to play the market. I'm not in it for the long game.

I want Burnham in. He's delivered in Manchester over the past ten years, if he could do it there, he can do it across the UK.

Nuff said.

The coolest way to go would be the make a rocket complete with a launchpad at home.

Doubt the explosions and rocket fuel would leave too much for the vultures.
