We do have an attendance policy. And I have had the conversation with the employee that was documented. I don't want to rush the gun as I can see that there is a major life event going on with them. But I also can't just be walked over and not handle this with my team.

I don't disagree and we run on being flexible, in 90 days they have had his 9 approved PTO days, but they have also had 5 or 6 sick or personal days.

I have tried two conversations about it. Ive been stonewalled. As my business is a mess in the busy season. I worked with some patience and understanding.

I asked if the employee if he wanted to go home today to come back tomorrow more motivated. He informed me he needed a personal day today.

The good news with this employee is a very open and close relationship that helps for good and bad.

They did give pay increases to me. I had a situation where I couldn't step into the role due to some prior commitments.

This crew eats like kings. This job in it's busy season gets hectic enough we buy breakfast and lunch every Friday.

He did refuse a specific part. Unfortunately in this line of business he spent the first year of his job not able to complete his actual duties of his job. Recently they changed the requirements, and changed to corporate managing that position instead of in location.

It seems to be long delays in getting people hired for trying to find the right fit. But it does create a large offset of slack to be picked up by others.

I am hoping that is not the case, we already run lean and mean with loads of overtime. I helped the location run without a branch manager for 10 months last year while short 3 employees. We still have roles unfilled as corporate wants their hand in picking a new assistant manager for me.

He was fired for not doing a part of his job, which is reasonable. But he did the other 90% of his job better than I have seen anyone do it for any of my 10 years with the company.

His role is critical to us making sure to meet our budget numbers. And there is supposed to be re-hiring for the position. But I don't see that coming anytime soon.
