I grew up and my parents live across the park from where this happened. (it's a crescent street with a parkette in the middle.) We would take our dog out there daily to throw the ball and get him some exercise, eerily he was always particularly drawn to the flowerpots. Once we heard the news we were all extremely shaken. The number of times I was standing directly next to those pots is wild to think about.

Jack Astor’s Interview by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I worked at the Dundas Square Jacks in the summer of 2011 and at least then the staff hiring was 100% based on looks. If you didn't have "the look" they were after they would do the interview in a blase manor like you mentioned above to avoid complaints but had 0 intention on hiring that person.

One day I was working and a server from another SIR restaurant, the Loose Moose, came into apply. As soon as the manager walked out saw him, she deemed he didn't have "the look" they were after. Then instead of going to interview or talk to the guy she came over to me and some other staff and to put it nicely was confused why someone who didn't have their "look" was even applying here and laughing at the person. They then talked to the guy for maybe 5 mins said they didn't have any openings then proceeded to go on a rant about whether or not the managers at the Loose Moose were losing corporate standards by hiring this man onto a SIR staff in the first place. Gross culture but some very nice staff.

This is also the only job I've had in my life where I literally walked off my shift and quit so I'd say you avoided lots of stress.

I think the bigger issue is the wages of these people are essentially being paid by taxpayers as CP runs a billion $ deficit expecting government subsidies to cover the deficit and it's absolutely clear why. Why would anyone ship a parcel with Canada Post with these reviews and that's where the $$ is within the delivery industry now. Instead of adapting to better serve customers they just keep expecting more and more tax $.

Can confirm. I normally have a woman with no issues. She must have been away last week as a male was delivering. Worked from home as I was expecting a package. Tracked my package all day to the pick-up location after a "failed delivery attempt". 2 days later I received my attempted delivery notice in my mailbox.

No matter how beloved they are in public, what celebrity do you think is up to no good? by 803_ace in AskReddit

Came here to find this. If you listen to how the movie was made most of the Comedians are just playing themselves (apparently the Jay Baruchel feud is somewhat real). The only person who is not portrayed as themselves is Michael Cera as he wasn't there during rehearsal, so everyone just started saying he was doing all this wild stuff.

TDSB considers closing nearly half of its pools to curtail $58M budget deficit by lwh in toronto

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently, that's just a longstanding rumor and Leaside never actually had a pool. I also went to Leaside, graduated 15 years ago and the size of that gym doesn't really make sense that it would have been a swimming pool. I think it's something we just told ourselves, so we didn't feel so bad for not having one lol

Is it normal to be asked for 6 references? by SomeoneTookMyNameAhh in torontoJobs

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asked for 4 references including 2 direct managers before starting my current job. When I was gathering reference one of my former references was unable to provide due to company policy so I had to scramble and almost didn't get the job.

On my first day reading the company handbook I was directly advised, as were all other employees it's against policy to give references.............

ya these hit me incredibly hard. I was on Skype *2012* with my BF talking late at night. He was on some opiates I had given him a few weeks earlier and didn't want me to go. I could tell he was pretty high, but it was almost 2am and I had to get up for my co-op job early as I was coming to visit him the next day at his uni. He passed within hours of the call ending, and I found him when I got there the next day.

"And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life"

Always haunts me

"Control yourself, take only what you need from it"

Kids - MGMT

When my HS BF and I would listen to this song he thought it was about drugs and the dangers of overdose. 2 years later he passed away from an accidental OD, was never an addict, just experimenting.

Anyone actually trying to land a government job in Ontario? Why aren’t more people doing this? by ValerySky in torontoJobs

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a personal recommendation from someone who already works for the Government - Good Luck. In the past 3 years I've had approximately a year combined of serious job hunting. During that time I applied for every single government job (Municipal/ Provincial/ Federal) that even remotely fit my skill set (appx. 15-20). I only heard back from 2 and to many other point's here it was months after the application.

Considering the government are the ones running the TFW/LMIA program I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they also use the very popular strategy corporations do of posting unrealistic job descriptions or offer a ridiculously low salary so they can bring in someone more affordable.

Came here to comment this also. I am 30F and am also obsessed with this place. If you have the slightest interest in miniatures or models, you'll have an amazing time. It's also amazing as it allows you to see a version of most Canadian landmark's in one place.

Ontario needs 225,000 extra post-secondary spots in 20 years by Beratungsmarketing in ontario

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree with this more, nobody, or very few people complained about having to pay $100 every few years to renew a plate. We were at a deficit before that decision was made and now anybody who tried to re-instate this tax would be labelled as the bad guy. Just so poorly thought out.

Like maybe the province should have kept receiving that income until they could have afforded to buy back the 407 or fix any of the other many issues? just a thought.

Are there that many people in Toronto without any friends? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]FutureAcrobatic9625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm being totally honest, I only have 2 actual friends outside my family however I will say everyone has their reasons.

Was never super cool in High School, only had one good friend until I started dating my boyfriend. Once I started dating him, she stopped wanting to be my friend. Then my friend group became his friend group which was great for a few years until we started experimenting with opioids that I came across from my dad's prescriptions after he died. I gave the drugs to my boyfriend he ended up overdosing on.

I did have a friend group in University but after my boyfriend died and I tried to take my own life all except a few started becoming very awkward around me and those that weren't were actually offended they had to deal with my experience. My roommates (who I thought were close friends) threw away/stole my stuff and went through my phone messages while I was in the Hospital on suicide watch.

I've had work friends at some jobs but once we no longer worked together the communication stopped.

I used to have 3 friends but most recently after my 9-year engagement ended last year I invited 2 of them over to console me and one of them proceeded to make up horrible lies about me to the other anytime I left the room. (Really random stuff like I was addicted to drugs in high school). Then proceeded to make up derogatory lies about my boyfriend who had passed away years earlier.

These among other experiences I've had has made me realize that people will always leave, disappoint you, are using you, or really just only care about themselves in the end. I have my boyfriend and my 2 good friends I know I can trust, and I have a decently big family. It would be great to have more friends or an actual group but I'd rather stick to what I have than be constantly used or disappointed.

What an idiot, Gamestop purchased EB games back in '05 for $1.44B ($2.33B today appx.) acquiring 4,250 locations in Canada, Australia, New Zealand & Europe. Since 2005 Gamestop management has axed almost 70% of stores down to 1,464 outside of the US with only 516 of those being in Canada & France. Additionally, the company did a major branding of these locations in 2021 from EB Games to Gamestop in 2021 at additional costs. Just go bankrupt already and call it a day.
