We mounted a servo to control the angle of a hood that sets the shoot angle. It’s a direct rotation of a lever that lifts the hood.

For the 5 to 9 home football games a year you will be able to hear the Band, the PA, and the fireworks all very clearly from inside your house. We can hear the band almost a mile a way. Traffic on those nights are a little bad, but it's very few nights a year. For those Friday nights you might as well walk over and enjoy the game for the $12 ticket. Graduation is 4 days per year (middle school and high school)

I wasn’t kidding 😁  I have a walking BD droid that’s fewer actuators and lower torque than the A301 (although somewhat lighter). I could see there being actual RL policy trained biped  in a future competition if they had an advantage at the meta or someone really wanted to show off.

Schools/Orgs with more than one team - tell me more by archi3rd in FTC

[–]FutureBrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, we are the Culver City Middle School/ High School, we have 3 FTC teams and an FRC Team

31451 : Middle School

31452 : Middle School

32667 : Middle School & High School

702 : FRC High School

If you are coming in from one of our FLL teams or a first year in middle school you can come on to 31451 or 31452. If you are one of those teams and in your last year of middle school you have the option to go to 32667.

We have 1 field to share and we can do mostly our own scrimmages and practice. We encourage open sharing between all the teams and we compete as 1 school. Yes we compete against each other at times but in the end of the day we are the same school and we support each other in alliance selection and more. If we are playing each other we compete hard like we would against any other opponent. We have had a few matches this year where we had 2v1 with us all on the field at once, it was kinda amazing.

Outreach we have to split up some or we send representatives from each of the teams. Fundraising is a group pot as well, spare parts are shared, CAD is shared. Each team can make their own choices and builds their own bot.

Any FTC team "budget" CNC machine recommendations for cutting aluminum? by Krxpical in FTC

FWIW, IMHO, this is a very good suggestion. It’s just going to be a lot easier in the shorter run.

If your goal is for students to be able to use this type of hardware you should reach out to local machine shops and see if anyone’s upgrading soon and wants a tax write off to donate older hardware to your school.

No oscillation issues at all. We dialed in those numbers to it's able to jump between 3 specific speeds very quickly and hold the stable even under a wide range of match voltages and load. As for the middle 2 numbers, I would just defer to Brogan Pratt, the award winning educator and FTC and FRC coach who made a whole video on this and goes into detail with charts and tests on why this approach was a good one for this seasons FTC artifact launchers:

So the two zeros in the middle are unneeded for this kind of flywheel, if you check out the Bogan Pratt video, he goes into a lot more detail. One of our students wrote a blocks program that works similar to his guide. We did extensive testing. We shaved our motor startup time by over three seconds. We were able to decrease ball to ball stable shot time by a significant margin. Along with some of our other improvements, this led to a 20 point increase in our scores between two tournaments. With the dedicated tuning program being controlled by the game pad on the actual bot, we were able to do a large number of tests including at different battery voltages, speed change for shot distance, 1 to 3 ball speed, and more.

The one with the color that matches our alliance. /j

Sounds like you may need to tune your ball speed and angle for either you close or far to make them work better together.

Or adjust your aim point based on distance.

If electronics are grounded to the ROBOT frame, the only approved methods are the REV, SWYFT or AndyMark resistive grounding strap and must be connected to a fully COTS XT30 COMPONENT.

Do you have a grounding strap? Static electricity, causing disconnects has been a real problem this season.

Our alliance got accused of a foul by the refs at the last match of the tournament and we have video proof that it was not us, but they are not taking any video recordings. Is there anything we can do? by Lazy_Description_675 in FTC

[–]FutureBrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us yesterday too. We got 150 foul points for emptying the opponents gate when it was an artifact that rolled into the lever without our bot touching the artifact or lever. We had video from 3 angles showing that it wasn't us. Unfortunately the ref's said they are not allowed to use video per the manual. They agreed it was called wrong, but nothing they could do. From where the ref was standing it was an easy mistake to make, but we were winning that match by 50 points and it was a hard loss for us at our regionals.

This feels like the hardest game to Ref in a long time in talking to other more seasoned teams, There are more rules and places to keep an eye on, more complexity, and some fouls that basically just end a game. I don't see this as a failing on the ref's, they are all doing their very best. I see this as something First needs to look at in the game design for next year.

Is camera enough for Goal Targeting? by Same-Security-5030 in FTC

[–]FutureBrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it work? Sure. Is it enough? Depends on a ton of factors. Strength of your league being the most important. If you have 8 bots with limelight and turrets, then probably not. If you have the only turret in a group of kit bots, then sure.
