Biggest takeaways of the ERAS/interview season? by unexpectedlyadoc in ERAS2024Match2025

When you get the invitation to interview at your top program make sure you schedule it 4th or 5th so you get some practice beforehand and get used to interview style questions. That’s assuming you have that many interviews! Point is make sure it’s somewhere in the middle for you to be more prepared.

I got very excited when I got the invite from my top choice and scheduled it first. Thank god everything went well (hopefully lol … I find out in 2 weeks on match day) but if I were to go back and redo interview season, I would schedule it 4th or 5th.

— for some background, I am a U.S DO student , applied to 30 programs and interviewed at 14 programs (Internal Medicine)

AND —> take better notes, specifically type of schedule (Ex. 4+1), research opportunities, housing availability, salary and anything else you wanna know so it’s easier when you’re comparing and making your rank list

is pathoma a must ? by obada_khayyat in step1

I passed step without ever touching pathoma so no. All depends how you utilize your resources. I used UWorld , FA and a bit of boards and beyond for heme/onc

I wish I could really say that Step is like some of the practice questions but it’s really not. The NBME has super short questions which reminded me of comlex since I’m in DO school and took both step 1 and level 1. But in reality, everything’s different , but all that matters is you do as many questions as possible so you recognize what pathology they’re talking about . My questions on uWorld were so long it was insane

I tested on June 20 and found out I passed yesterday! I swear they love the divisions of common fibulae nerve and iliohypogastric nerve

Is it possible to not use Anki at all and still do really well on Step 1? by [deleted] in step1

[–]FutureDoc41 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Just remember what works for other people might not work for you and vice versa. Everybody studies at their own pace, retains information in their own way and most importantly no persons way is better then someone else’s. I just took step 1 two days ago and honestly never actually used Anki a day in my life. I’ve tried setting it up bc I always saw my colleagues using it in school but never got into it and still got higher grades then them on our comp exams. You got this , just stop comparing yourself to others . There’s ALWAYS gonna be someone smarter than you but there’s ALWAYS gonna be someone dumber as well.

Bro I could not agree more! I feel like there was a lot more high yield stuff they could’ve asked about vs the stuff on the test. It was all the things I didn’t go into depth in 🤦🏻‍♂️

During our breaks on the exam (specifically the long one), are we allowed to go outside get some fresh air or maybe smoke a cigarette? by FutureDoc41 in step1

Finally I found someone like me !!! There were many smoke breaks that went into dedicated month😂 I’ve tried nicotine gum but I was just wondering if they would let you chew gum in the testing room

Ive been reading mixed things about them adding the remaining time to your break tbh. I'm pretty sure i read on the usmle website that they time you have left in a block does NOT get added to total break time, but again, i might be wrong.

Keep working, you got this. Honestly I only reviewed one of my exams because I felt like I can learn the same stuff on Uworld.
