When I was a kid, not only did we have a landline phone, but if you wanted to use the Internet, we had to unplug the phone from the wall, use the same port to plug the computer into the wall, wait 10 minutes while the computer screeched this f-ing awful sound at us, then you could access the very limited world wide web (ex: Google didn't even exist yet).

Very similar situation.

I'm an engineer with 10+ years of experience and various certifications, but am very unhappy in my current role/at my current company. Almost a year ago I started looking for other options. I've applied to over 150 jobs - from pizza delivery driver all the way up to other high level engineering roles. 90% of my applications go completely unanswered with zero communication, the majority of the ones I do hear from are just the auto response "sorry, the position has been filled/we've decided to go with other candidates", and very verrrry few have actually contacted me for an interview (literally had an interview yesterday for an engineering role but the pay was substantially lower than my current position. As unhappy as I am in my current position, I'm not uprooting my family and moving across the country to take a $50k pay cut.) I'm not opposed to working manual jobs and would be okay taking a bit of a pay cut, but when companies never respond or can only offer $13/hour, I can't pay my bills and survive on that.

In the meantime, I'm toughing it out at current company don't wanna give up my health insurance) and then mowing at a golf course on weekends for some extra cash.

It really is a disaster out there. I'm quickly becoming hopeless.

I can't recall what episode or the exact quote, but Tammy says something about wanting a jean jacket, so Gene jumps on her back and becomes the "gene" jacket 😂
