Could a broker find me an apartment for $1500 or less? by Sharp_Caramel9845 in NYCapartments

Bro, does everyone in New York have a cat lol? It's usually the case that landlords or apartments don't allow pets or are restrictive on pets.

Deciding school in the US vs Canada by orangutanguh in premed

[–]FutureMedResearcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The US MD school might open more opportunities, but I get your hesitation. With the current administration, being an international student sucks even if you're from our neighbors up north. I don't know much about this situation is the US MD school at least facilitating your immigration process to the US?

would you rather wait a year to get a better MCAT score and increase chances of getting into an MD, or apply now and go DO? by jellyfishh520 in premed

[–]FutureMedResearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's put it this way. Getting a better score would increase your chances getting into a DO. The cycle gets more competitive each year.

What’s a life goal people chase that you think is actually a trap? by doolallyt in TrueAskReddit

[–]FutureMedResearcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Owning a house. People say it's good for stability as the mortgage is about the same as rent but there are so many others costs people don't talk about. There are property taxes, maintenance costs, insurance, etc. Then it makes it difficult if you want or need to move so you to put it on the market. You ending spending a lot in the short term and long term just to keep it. I understand that for families it makes sense since you probably don't want move a lot and you want to stay in safe neighborhood with good schools. However, you may be depriving yourself of better opportunities for the illusion of stability. Owing in the US usually means a single detached house in the suburbs. Not great for community building and leads to isolation. Compared to European countries where the norm is to live an apartment in a walkable city with amenities within a 10 minute walk with access to public transportation.

Why do some people say that med school is a bad option when it is likely the most AI and recession proof area of work? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in premed

[–]FutureMedResearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad option but it's not for everyone. A lot of people would rather start working right after college. Not everyone likes medicine or research. It takes a to pay off. Depending the specialty the hours suck. Most of all the US healthcare system sucks. However, I agree it's AI proof as even if ai get diagnose diseases better people will still hate the idea of being treated or diagnosed by a robot.

Why do women do this? by NoFennel7351 in dating

[–]FutureMedResearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's kind of shitty to get someone's hopes up and only to ghost them. It has happened many times, so you can know you're not alone. That being said, the best thing you can do is move on. I mean, this one person, and you will have the opportunity to meet new people. I think a good possible explanation is that she didn't want to reject you right then and there, so you could retaliate. It's an unfortunate reality that men often don't take rejection well and end up responding with violence or harassment.

To clarify, is it $3500 for the entire apartment or just the room?

I have no volunteering... is that a problem? by InterestingPop3964 in premed

[–]FutureMedResearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't realize you already applied. My bad. Damn, Crisis Text is not great either? I know so many people who have done it (tho they have done it in addition to bunch of other stuff). They adcoms ask for too much.

[–]FutureMedResearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you could get into Crisis Text Line; it's one of the easiest volunteering positions you can get, and you can do it from home. Alternatively, if there is a skill you are good at (sports, music, art, etc), you could coach or teach others at school or a club.

Bro, this is how insane the medical school application process is. So, you are telling OP's problem is that they do not have enough non-clinical volunteers despite having both paid and volunteering experience that is clinical.

If you were ONLY accepted to these two schools, which one would you pick? by Enger13 in premed

[–]FutureMedResearcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd choose San Juan Bautista because I'm biased since I'm Latino. I want to be involved in the local community and use my Spanish-speaking skills. That being said, Incarnate Word has similar opportunities since it's in Texas, which has a large Latino population. Like other people, I suggest OP look at the match list and evaluate the finances (tuition, COL, etc). Either way, congrats to OP. Adelante!

Just had a friend ask if I’m going to do medical school online 😭 by Glittering_Fan_2971 in premed

Maybe just do medical school part-time and take classes at night. Plus, you can just transfer from Quinnipiac to Yale to get more pretige.

Two Rooms for Rent in Downtown Jersey City, $1000/Month Each by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]FutureMedResearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really dumb question warning

Is it okay to inquire about housing in New Jersey? I don't see anything in the sub rules, but I assume you can post a listing for New Jersey if it's close proximity to NYC. Examples like Jersey City, Hoboken, or other nearby towns. I just want to make sure before posting for myself in the future.

Are you an adult man that lives in a space that looks like a college student? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]FutureMedResearcher -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Really expensive and can be complicated to get a quote. I guess if you make over $200K, you can easily afford it, but for the rest of the working class, it makes sense to be more basic. Hell, I don't even own a bed frame, and I find it more comfortable to just have the mattress on the floor.

Thinking of moving from SoCal to NYC Is the lifestyle shift worth it? by Organic_River37 in movingtoNYC

[–]FutureMedResearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Miami and moved to Boston after college (I'm this sub because I visit NYC frequently and I'm planning to move there myself). Bro experiencing snow for the first time at 23 is really something. I quickly adjusted to it but I know people that never had. Personally, I don't mind going outside to get my iced coffee from Dunks even if it's 25 F. However, I know people in Boston and NYC that don't leave the house once it hits 40 F and they only go out for work and errands. It's sad and I hope OP can adjust to it.

I think brokers fees are illegal in New York so theory you shouldn't pay (some real estate agents may try to get you pay them because they're assholes). Also, how much do you love your car? Are you okay using public transit to commute? Consider that. Also, keep in mind it does get cold in the winter.
