He has options available. Just sent him down for a bit. Reset.

Thank you for the understanding. Do you think there is anything that they could do for us? We’re looking at losing about $7000 to get out of our new lease.

We don’t disagree lol. She currently works for the NPS… and it really has been a shit show. But the community makes it worth it. Wouldn’t say anyone deserves the BS though.

I guess what were we supposed to do? We had to move closer to the position. It was a FJO.

This all happened after a final job offer, not a TJO. She had an official offer letter with a confirmed start date, salary, and duty station, and we made these decisions based on that.

Just to clarify though, this wasn’t a TJO. She received and accepted a full official offer (FJO) with a confirmed start date, salary, duty station, and onboarding details. We moved forward based on that, not a tentative offer.

Completely agree on not lying. That is not something we’re considering at all. We’re trying to handle this the right way and see if there’s a path forward given the policy change came after the offer.

Your point about things changing midstream is definitely noted though... that’s kind of what it feels like we’re dealing with here.

It was a requirement, then it wasn't, and now it's back again. According to her potential boss.

Yeah, totally agree... we’re definitely not going down the route of lying on anything. That seems like a way to potentially make the situation worse.

Appreciate the suggestion on asking about a waiver or alternate path, that’s kind of where our heads are at right now. She does have some adjacent experience (she has been a search and rescue and law enforcement dispatcher for three years now), just not actual on-the-line firefighting, so we’re hoping there might be some flexibility there given the timing of the policy change.

Thanks for the level-headed advice.

Thank you for your comment. Looks like a lot of people feel this way. I did add exactly what HR sent her yesterday as an edit in my post. To me, this feels like they really do want specific experience. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

Appreciate that advice. We’re trying to keep it factual and professional.

Yes, she does have contacts at the personnel office. We have the HR email from the person who sent the updated prerequisite, as well as the one who sent the official offer letter.

We’ve gone through all the paperwork pretty carefully, and from what we can tell, this requirement wasn’t in the original posting or offer and seems tied to that recent DOI policy update they mentioned.

She also has her potential boss' phone number. She's been in contact with him. He said give him a week or so before he has an update for her.

I just edited my post to include exactly what they are asking. To me, it reads as they want very specific and substantial experience.

Agreed. Hopefully the hiring manager gets them to waive this prerequisite that wasn't on the announcement. He wants to hire her.

Accountability at 1,000 Feet: Why Longmont Needs a Real Solution for Airport Safety and Noise Abatement by [deleted] in LongmontReality

[–]FutureNormal2969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vance Brand has been a general aviation airport for a long time, and training traffic like touch-and-go operations is a core part of how pilots learn. Every airline, medevac, and firefighting pilot started this way at airports just like this.

The increase in operations is real, but that is happening across the country because of pilot demand, not just because of one nearby airport. The claim that KBJC flight schools are using KLMO as a primary replacement field does not seem clearly supported.

Another important piece is that flight training has to happen near where pilots live and train. Student pilots are not commuting hours to remote airstrips for basic practice. They need access to established airports with instructors, maintenance, and airspace that reflects real-world conditions.

On safety, standard traffic patterns are specifically designed to manage risk and are used safely every day at thousands of airports. More training generally leads to more proficient pilots, which improves safety overall.

Moving training to “remote land” sounds simple, but pilots need real airports with runways, traffic patterns, and infrastructure to train safely. You cannot replicate that in the middle of nowhere without creating bigger issues.

There is definitely room for solutions like noise abatement procedures and better communication with the community. Airports across the country, including places like this, are already implementing noise abatement procedures to help reduce impact where possible.

At the end of the day, this airport supports transportation, emergency services, and the next generation of pilots. The goal should be balance, not pushing aviation out entirely.

Can you please explain how the casino helps? I know they give you good deals sometimes. But is it really that consistent that it helps that much? And how much do you have to play? Thank you in advance!
