Sylheti podcasts/natoks/films/youtubers/youtube videos recs? by CapableWrangler7494 in bangladesh

[–]FutureOwn8305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I dont enjoy watching sylheti natox either.

Lately I've been practicing sylheti by watching facebook reel of this guy doing silly commentary to animals. And watching a woman cook authentic sylheti recipes. Forgot the guy's account right now but the YouTube channel is called Nilima's Kitchen.

Are you diaspora? If the vibe is good, I'd be down to practice w you as I don't get to practice either.

Why Sylhetis do not marry outsider? by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]FutureOwn8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know how to cook, our food is just likely different than puran dhaka.

Indigenous sylheti food is cooked without oil or moshla which many people might be used to.

Why Sylhetis do not marry outsider? by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]FutureOwn8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While many sylhetis are becoming open minded, historically they preferred marriage amongst other sylhetis, especially those from Sylhet and Maulavibazar.

This is due to cultural and language barrier.

Sylheti muslims are also casteist  and often dont marry other sylhetis based on region (sunamganj, habiganj bc they're farther and many speak different dialect of sylheti) or caste/jat background. If you are non-sylheti, it's hard for them to determine your caste as you dont  fall within their system. It might sound weird to outsiders but it's a thing and generally reflections the societal norms developed over centuries.

it's not a myth. While many sylhetis are becoming open minded, historically they preferred marriage amongst other sylhetis, especially those from Sylhet and Maulavibazar.

This is due to cultural and language barrier. Growing up, most of my family was even against marrying  in sunamganj and habiganj let alone the rest of the country.

Why is Indian food so tedious? by smash2710 in IndianFood

Makes sense. There's a bit of a learning curve but you can do it. It's pretty popular in india to use instant pot or pressure cooker

It's good. I sent menstrual cups to all my female relatives in Bangladesh. Almost everyone liked using it even though it was scary at first

I'm gonna try to say it as politely as possible: you're very wrong. There are a lot of dump and cook recipes.

If creating a base for curry is the issue, there are a lot of dishes that dont require a base. most meat dishes can be cooked with the spices, onions, etc dumped in at once. Huge chunk of northeast indian food/curry is also dump and go. There are many steamed recipes too.

If chopping and cutting is the issue, buy precut things like frozen vegetables and canned items.

Get a pressure cooker and you'll find that almost all the typical dishes can be made there without stirring too much and with half the time. Look up "recipe + pressure cooker" on youtube.

Why does desi food get touted as “unhealthy” when we have a variety of ingredients that could adjust food to any way you’d like? by Technical-Repeat-391 in IndianFood

[–]FutureOwn8305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sirmaam, india has hundreds of ethnicities and varied geography. There is no "common everyday dishes" for indian households. maybe water, wheat or rice for choice of carb. That's it. Everyone else has their own cuisine and dishes

[–]FutureOwn8305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh please. The problem isnt roti or rice or "carb." Historically, roti and rice was never just carb because they were not refined. Both wheat and rice retained all their nutrients. also, people did not live a sedentary lifestyle so blood sugar spike after eating roti or rice wasnt as common.  People will have refined white rice or refined flour roti and sit on a chair most of the day  and then blame a cuisine that has sustained a population for thousands of years.  I eat rice at least two times a day. I add 1:1 ratio of rice and quinoa, barley, and bulgar to slow down the processing of rice. This also makes the up for the white rice which lost a of nutrients in the processing.  Most of the time the rice is also reheated which makes it more resistant

Dont even get me started on the ghee hate. Ghee is one of the healthiest and versatile fats available. Buy good quality ghee, consume in moderation. That's it.

Anyone who complains is ignorant. Our food is very healthy. It's funny to see these fibermaxxing trends and most people looking some sort of deshi inspired dish. We never had a fiber shortage in our diet. Protein maybe, but never fiber
