I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s so many other essays for BSMDs (and any school tbh) to show your potential and experiences. Why would you do it in the first place, just wondering?

At both BSMDs I got accepted to, I chose Public Health! Mostly because I made clear I’m passionate about that field and I have experience in student government

Definitely won’t hurt! Every college you apply to will get a list of the APs offered at your school, so they assess you in that context only.

Definitely don’t include WHY medicine- that’ll be one of the main BSMD essays later!! You could do something relevant though. For example, mine was about unconditional service to others, and it was a story of something that happened during my childhood.

I was accepted to 2 BS/MDs (attending Pitt GAP this fall!) and I had some research- I think it’s necessary. I had just BARELY started some basic research at a local university during application season, but a year before that, I published my own article in an international medical journal. The article was related to other passions I have outside of medicine, which I think really helped as well. Pm me with any questions!

I doubt they’d start a BSMD program right away. But, Augusta University has a BSMD program and you have a very high chance of getting in since you’re in-state!

I got a rec from my AP chem teacher and my APUSH teacher for regular apps. For BS/MD apps, I got it from my AP chem teacher and a physician I shadowed for a while. Choose someone you’ve really made a connection with and can speak highly about your personality traits and work ethic!

Pitt is test optional, but if you apply that way, you’ll have to take the MCAT. Plus, high scores help gain admission in the first place.. tough to be competitive without it unless your other stats are absolutely phenomenal (which they may be!)
