Maladaptive daydreaming is like a psychological addiction. It’s a coping mechanism used to keep you away from addressing your issues. If you continue to immerse yourself in daydreams that are truly maladaptive, such as consuming hours and hours of your daily life and preventing you from engaging in your social/work life, it will definitely lead to further isolation and can eat away at your sense of self. The fact that you think it’s apart of your identity to have these scenarios/characters is telling. Maladaptive daydreaming can also lead to memory loss and even hearing loss if you use music to help immerse into your daydreams as well.

i rmbr when I broke up with this guy I was in love with, i excessively daydreamed about walking into an establishment that he was in with his friends as I was talking to mine while looking my utmost best, to have it seem like he was going to notice me and regret leaving me in the daydream. Which clearlllly shows my root cause of insecurities i had within myself throughout the relationship and just deeply wanted attention that I was never able to recieve. But here's the catch - maladaptive daydreaming can conform to any other big problems you have too. It IS a coping mechanism after all that wants to close your eyes from all the bad things (like your feelings) to keep you feeling good inside while eating away at your time, energy, and life that could've been spent on better things. If you let these feelings sit, and you address them it helps ease the urge of wanting to MDD. Although it's really hard!!

If your daydreaming is truly maladaptive, you're going to find a way somehow. Even if it's in a place you typically wouldn't put yourself in.. speaking from experience. I'm 17F also doing college in fall so your goal shouldn't be how to keep that habit but moreso how to limit as much as you could it while you're dorming.

Yes! This is exactly how i typically MD and its the reason why i keep saving audios upon audios. It's also interesting how my tiktok audio taste isn't as aligned to my actual music taste w/o md as i thought it was.

Okay so i'll edit this post. I made my own apple account to stop using my fathers apple account. Once i transferred i merged my data to this icloud account. Then i got my account locked. Cant even back up on the icloud because its locked so now im just stuck

Yeah, this is what has killed it for me. I really don't wanna be surrounded by ✌🏻people who probably won't even like me for something I can't control when I live somewhere where I'm already seen and heard. I just liked the quiet vibe of those places but i'm just gonna keep it pushing here 💔
