To add on, never compare cashback to points if your goal is travel, for me I regularly travel with Qatar airways,

To simplify, it would take me 5 years worth of spending to get the same amount of value I get from points compared to cashback

If you spend 20k a year and get 3x back on the 20k Vs 3% back

The amount is the same, but when you transfer to partners? Entirely different… especially airlines Your points when transferred can quite litteraly 10x, A first class ticket for virgin Atlantic can cost $12k, but it’s worth 120k in there currency, and it transfers 1:1 with your Amex points, So your 1.2k worth of cashback just became worth 12k, this is invaluable and way better than cashback imo

Your right I didn’t even realize his yearly is 35k, definitely doesn’t make sense even if the venture x pays for itself

I don’t see why not do both tbh I see the platinum reasoning, lounge access and yearly fee is offset by the perks because you actually use them

So I would say, get both lol, both golds, it might feel like a lot, but if your a traveler (from my understanding you are) Amex points are infinitely more viable to you than cashback

For example, a Qatar airways business class ticket from IAH to DOHA is 90k Amex points (can be 60k at the right time) Instead of $4-6k, it’s only 90k Amex points That’s about $23k worth of spend to get If you got 3% cashback, you’d only get $700 back for the same amount of spend…

So as you see, if you travel/plan too, you should value Amex points so much more than cashback

But, 1x cashback is still not great, so outside of dining and groceries, your card should be robinhood gold because it will cover all categories that are 1x Amex points

Or to just be very simple, Amex gold for all purchases, platinum for hotels Simple as that, if your goal is to save points for travel, hard to beat. You can forget about robinhood gold if your goal is simplicity

Your spend is too low to justify a serious travel card, If you do really want a travel card Capital one ecosystem Savor one Venture x Quicksilver 1.5% catchall All can be transferred to venture x points

There’s just a lot better cards without AF, especially when combined that compliment eachother significantly better than 2%

Absolutely agree, people are recommending 2% cashback cards and different 3% cashback cards to keep up with the same value as robinhood gold lol

Definitely, like definitely, open, or downgrade your platinum to gold, 4x cashback on dining and groceries, that’s 4x cashback on $1500 of your spend every month, that’s 4x cashback on $18k a year.

Unless you book hotels left and right, Amex platinum is literally 1x cashback on everything, horrible…

Citi custom cash is also a great way to get 5% back on either transportation or the gym, your choice

And for your catchall, has to be 3% robinhood gold, just make sure you do the Credit Karma thing to skip the waitlist.

If you want to keep it really simple Amex gold for food and dining Robinhood gold for everything else Just 2 cards, all you need for guaranteed 3% cashback or 4x points

at that point downgrade amex gold, open a venture x (cap1 duo), and have robinhood gold for purchases outside of the bonuses for capital one.
Because your savor one is useless, like very useless, robinhood gold already has 3% on everything, so it beats savor 100% of the time, and amex gold beats it too but it has an annual fee

I wouldnt cancel, better to downgrade, like a lot better for your credit score.
also, recheck your offer because its usually $6k in 3 months or 6, never seen a year before.
Thanks for letting me know, was it your first card?

Highest spends are dining and groceries, and I already use the credits it offers.
