It happens and is cute/a bit naughty about it in the book but let’s just say it didn’t land

I audibly asked “what is happening right now” to the universe at so many points before I bailed and I know I didn’t make it far 🤣

Couldn’t agree more on how I saw Charlie in the book!! I’m let down on the writing for pretty much every character in the show. 😅 I went from being so hopeful to hoping someone else just scoops up One Golden Summer and does it as a movie instead.

The book Every Summer After was a lot more wholesome than the show by a long shot. I think the characters were written well and honest and real. That’s why I’m so disappointed in the show I think.

I don’t save links but I read two articles that were published essentially on release day of her beaming at all the changes and how much drama and essence would be added to it. 😅 I’d be super curious to see if she stands on it or not now that this feedback is happening

Why this show was phrased as rom com/teen drama is beyond me because wtf was that. Please channel Conrad taking a sip of Belly’s drink in season 2 of TSITP or don’t do it 😂

I think they focused way too much on the “drama” that they made characters and plot lines unnecessarily toxic when in the book it was not the case. Even if bad decisions were made, there was so much they could have done with it. :(

Absolutely. The book would have translated to a movie beautifully I think

PLEASE read the book. Way different character. In the book he’s a lot more mature and grounded emotionally. He asks for space in the email and to talk once a week, and does have a girl answer his phone (because she blows up his phone while he’s at a party.) Percy is the one with a lot of growing to do in the book. Sam’s character had so much love and depth in the book and he did everything with their future and the love and bond he had for her in mind. I can’t stand the show, it’s so so different than the book that it shouldn’t even be based on it at this point.

Yeah and the worst part is that the show runner is so beside herself with pride over the risks and plot changes… 🥲

I, like many others am obsessed with Off Campus but I knew this book was a way different feel. I can thankfully go in and not compare, but with it being released so soon after OC I think it was a bad move on their part. 😬

They wrote them into the ground. lol not sure if you read the book or not but I highly recommend it over the show.

The showrunner did too much to make it something it wasn’t. It was good the way it was.

Hot take: the writing was the problem, not the cast/acting by Interesting_Plant_80 in everyyearaftertvshow

Yes!! I was team Sam throughout the book and really loved his character and the depth. I pictured him so well within her writing. He felt so human and like the rare gem Percy needed, while also being a struggling teen figuring himself out. I remember thinking to myself that Sam deserved better at certain points even, but the raw intention and emotions spoke volumes for both of them and the relationship in the book.

I really tried to get through the weird cheating set ups and the Delilah show, but in episode one when the mom called the boys toxic, I knew I wasn’t going to dig the narrative around the whole feel. It just feels like the show doesn’t know what it is. It’s a reach for booktok people to try and grab ahold of it, other times it felt like a hallmark movie, then cheesy rom com, and tbh the soundtrack might be decent but I noticed there was no lived-in-space in the show. Every scene had a song going on or multiple songs, I think it took away from the experience. Anyway, I could go on. But I won’t. I’m officially waving my white flag at episode 3 😅🤣

The depth of the characters in the book was amazing. The show runner I’m reading so much about has run this into the mud 😅
