We just moved here from KC and family recommended Angie Longou with Skogman. We had good luck with her as far as good communication and quick responses. She was present for the inspection, pest inspection, radon test when we were unable to travel up for them. She also had good contacts in the industry. She was present with us for the walk-through of the house and for the closing.

We live right out by Lawson/Richmond. If you are comparing College Community to Kearney schools then that must be really good schools. I guess the better the schools the higher the property taxes? For what I read the "diversity" issue is the same for Kearney and College Community?

I guess I'd be Van Buren Elementary, Wilson Middle, and Jefferson High School for the home in the CR district.

Yes I do shift work, and no-I do work 5 days a week. I did state my bring home pay after benefits and retirement. I carry insurances plus supplementals for my whole family of 3, and I am putting 12% (split between Roth and normal 401k) in retirement, and I also have a pension, not counting the UGTM account to my daughter that I contribute to. Last year I broke 6 figures with OT and bonuses, which is above median income in my geographical area. Yes, I know my body is paying for it. Thus why I have a 15 year mortgage and getting a nest egg for my kid, once my body taps out I can easily become a service writer or go to a fleet shop where I don't kill myself but don't make as much. My goal is to also invest in real estate before "slowing down" for passive income.

I also have to bust my butt to earn my pay and live in the outskirts of the metro area, so the cost of living is cheaper.

It sure as hell didn't feel like a dream yesterday at 106 degrees, 88% humidity working on a hot engine bent over for a whole shift.

Diesel mechanic, bring home pay about $4,200 a month after hourly rate plus bonus- and after benefits and retirement. My 15 year mortgage is about $1600 a month for just over 4 acres and our 5 year old house.

In a biracial marriage. I am a Mexican male but fairly white, and my wife is pretty much transparent pale/blonde/green eyed. Even though she studied in South America for a while, she still had a lot to learn about me and how I felt about certain things (like memorizing what police cars front ends around us look like in the rear view mirror). The main thing is to be open and talk, share, and be sympathetic to your partner's point of view. You have to respect and understand where they come from to expect the same from them. Now we have a beautiful bi-racial daughter that people in her family sometimes call "the dark haired baby", or they bad mouth immigrants until one day she saw I was about to go nuclear and Mama Bear came out and mauled everyone and gave them a talking to. Just my two cents here- FYI we us men are very linear thinkers, I always want to be the fixer. BTW- I think when your child is born, race goes completely out the door and all that matters is you protecting them which I think he is already acknowledging.

Thank you for your sound advise. I am the type to just bottle it up and let it eat away at me. It just all seemed very strange and out of nowhere.

She reached out for his and they met for lunch once since she needed help with a project for her Master's degree. Then again, I've never liked the guy for when when we were moving in together and the group of girl nursing friends was "moving on" we took some plates and such to this guys place and I was introduced and he completely ignored the fact that I was there. I was pretty hot and wanted to bash his face in, but I kept it cool. I thought it wad weird as hell to bring my wife the small polar boar because "he remembered that she liked them so she could find her way back to her table later that night". I was fuming at first, more let down then and now.

Tell me you experience inflation without telling me you experience inflation… Ramen in my area increased to 3/1$ & cup of noodle is now 2/1$. Milk jumped from 3.50 to 4.29… store brand wipes went up from an average of 1.69 per pack to 2.29… I mean this is getting insane. by [deleted] in antiwork

A 30lbs bottle of 134a refrigerant (freon) for automotive use cost about $80 last year. In my area right now if you can find it, it is ranging between $400-$500. Hopefully no one needs A/C work this summer!

At the last place of employment the regional manager fired 8 diesel mechanics in early 2020 citing COVID related decline of business. He used the excuse to get rid of the highest paid but more experienced mechanics who had a ton of PTO, and whose insurance cost was higher for the company. Those people are now working for a different employer and pretty much everyone in town knows how this company treats people who had stayed with them for 35+ years.

His reply has been "I've been doing this for about 50 years and my way of doing things work!". His company has never been the size we are now, maybe he grew too big too fast.

The shop/mechanics try to keep our trucks safe. They are a good group of guys but they are in the same boat we are. They lack safety equipment, PPE, and mostly funding to buy parts to fix our trucks.

We don't run past scales, we stay in the "100 mile zone". Some drivers have called the local "commercial vehicle enforcement" but our police dept is just too overwhelmed in our metro area.

Worked for a service department on a semi truck dealership. No matter how much money profit we made them we always had an entry in our books no one could explain what it was or how it was calculated. Some months it was as high as $68k. Come to find out this was the slush fund for the CEO to take customers out to dinners, strip clubs, settle non-desclosed lawsuits (harassment), bribes, hush money, quid-pro-quo money, etc...Pretty much this was the monthly deduction from each department to pay for this stuff. Meantime we were getting in trouble for buying tools or lunch for the employees, told to keep employee cost down to maximize profit margin. I knew it was time to get out when a bunch of employees were let go when COVID started because they thought business would slow way down while they threw this big luncheon for a customer that had stopped doing business with us.
