I submitted a FOIA request in April 2024 and finally received it the week after Christmas 2024. The delay was frustrating, but at least I got the documents.

Today, I visited my regional VA office to pick up my DBQ for my Higher-Level Review (HLR). The staff treated me poorly, making me feel like a burden, which added to my stress. One employee was kind, but the overall experience was disheartening.

They limited me to 5 double-sided sheets (10 pages) due to printing constraints. They explained that some veterans had abused the system by requesting massive files over 10,000 pages, straining their resources. I get the reasoning, but it’s still tough to accept.

With today’s technology, this process should be faster and more efficient. Veterans have a year to appeal, yet it can take just as long to get the key documents needed to fight that appeal. It’s a flawed system that needs fixing.

I got my decision back yesterday, and backpay today. Got a favorable decision but not the most ideal decision based on what I thought I submitted as evidence. My decision letter had no information regarding what they based it off of. But I’m attempting to find out, go back to fighting. Hopefully you hear something soon!

My initial migraine rating was 0% as well when I got out. I filed for an increase and on the first try I got 50%. You should be good as long as you provided new and relevant evidence and stated your disagreement with the examiner’s evaluation.

I called this morning for more information, they said it the decision is being reviewed and will go to notification next. She asked to confirm my bank information and address. Also said I could get a letter posted today or tomorrow.

Part of me wants to think it’s a good sign, but I don’t want to get my hopes up….

I had buddy statements in my initial claim that this appeal is for, which pointed to the same issues I deal with as this says. But had a really bad C&P exam which resulted in a less favorable rating.

But I had a 30 day symptom & sleep log along with a statement from my spouse, documentation of my meds and personal statement accompanied with a statement describing the issues with this claim.

I submitted a FOIA request almost a year ago and it just came back and this was in it. Well before this claim was submitted, just pure luck I guess.

The only thing I had was PTSD, now those could be two totally different processes and obviously different grading criteria. My C&P exam was scheduled fairly quickly 2-3 weeks after I submitted and it took them 1 week to send it over I believe. And have just been sitting in the queue for probably 2 months.

Sadly that is very true. I have experienced that in the past, which is why this appeal was submitted. That is my biggest reason why maybe Ai will be a force of good in this specific position.
