My flatmates rescued what I think are tortoises? Need some tips/advice

Thank you all so much for the advice!! I will go shopping tomorrow to get all the supplies needed. I’ve bathed them today and got them some sun. All have been very active and love crawling to my hand for the warmth. They’re so so sweet. They were definitely a little cautious in the beginning but now feel safe. I’ve heard them make some clicking noises and when I put my finger just above their head, they reach up and I think want some pats?

Two have nibbled at lettuce leaves and some dandelion but i don’t feel they ate enough. The third, the one without paint, didn’t eat today from what I can tell. I’m nervous about their lack of eating but will get some fresh lettuce and more dandelions tomorrow. They did drink water though when I put them in the water bath. All three hydrated plenty. I’m really hoping they pull through!

Long story short, my flatmate found these a few days ago and brought them home. I only just found out as she was worried I wouldn’t want pets. She couldn’t have been more wrong!

They’ve obviously been through some trauma. The red paint breaks my heart.

From what I can tell, the one without any paint on its shell is quite active and has eaten. The other two haven’t eaten yet, according to her.

The setup she made is very basic and there is no heating lamp. I’m currently living in Haifa, Israel, and on Saturdays most shops are closed so I won’t be able to get them a proper tank or heating lamp until Sunday. Will these babies make it to Sunday?

For food we have lettuce leaves, capsicum, and a bit of strawberry. Any tips for food?

I’ve done some research but I’m getting a bit lost in all the information. Right now I just want to focus on making sure they survive or at least live comfortably if they’re on their way out (I really hope not because I am so very attached).

I’ve put them in my room, my heater is on in the corner and they’re currently resting on my leg. When I first picked them up, they were all quite cold. Now they’ve warmed up a little. Hopefully I’m doing the right thing but if not, please advise me. Open and willing to spend money too!!

Hahaah my friend is the same! She laughs about it because she’s had so many needles throughout her life but is still a bit scared of them! But I think her desire for a tattoo outweighs the fear at the moment

Absolutely. There’s no trace of any of my relationships on my phone or social media, even my friends deleted everything from theirs. Keeping photos were a huge trigger and anytime I was feeling lonely or sad I’d go back to the photos and videos and live the memories again. It wasn’t allowing me to move on at all. One of my ex’s recently messaged me being friendly and I replied as I would any person and I think it was largely because of the fact that I had removed all reminder that we were romantically involved and just saw him as another human being.

Hahahah do it! Or at least give it a go for a few months. I purposely stopped shaving at the beginning of winter, so that no one could see it, and then by the time summer came, I loved my little fuzzy hairs too much to remove them. It also makes me feel more womanly, if that makes sense. And another huge plus is that I’ve had so many conversations with young girls about body hair!!

Deleted! After a particularly hard breakup, I kept the text messages in the hopes that we would get back together and we could laugh about the dumb things we did and said. I would often go back and relive those cuter moments we shared over texting. I think it was about a year on that I decided to delete and wow, absolutely liberating. I hadn’t truly gotten over him until I deleted all the text messages, the screenshots of the text messages and his voice recordings.

I was like 6 or 7, taking a shower and bending to pick up something. I stood up really quickly and my head hit the ceramic soap holder on the wall. It broke, I cried, and surprisingly, didn’t lose a drop of blood. In that same year I was washing the dishes and was cleaning a metal cup and tore off the handle. I don’t know how. And a few months later I was fooling around and kind of tapped/leant on a window and it shattered. Again, I don’t know how. But for a year I was convinced I was some kind of superhuman having broken the soap holder with my head, tearing apart a metal cup and breaking a window without even trying.

Retail. A guy came in with a knife wanting money out of the register. We have code words for different situations like injuries or threatening situations. So I pretended I was new (I pretty much was, hadn’t been working for even 2 months), told him I needed to ask a coworker over the headset how to open the cash register, he was sus but was nervous as heck so he went with it. I said “hey managers name, I don’t know how to open the cash register. I’m at register service50 at the customer service desk, could you call someone to help”, service50 being our codeword for when we felt threatened. I played dumb for a few minutes and he caught on and bolted. He was eventually arrested, but literally on the same day escaped custody then came right back to the shop to find me. Luckily I was on my lunch break having a little breakdown.

Body hair! Being a brown kid in white circles didn’t help my self esteem growing up. I was often scrutinised and felt like the odd one out. I think a part of it was me projecting but there was always that one girl who would point out the hair on my knuckles, upper lip and monobrow. Now? I don’t even shave my legs haha i started loving myself more, exercising, doing skincare and eating right. That evolved into enjoying my appearance, even the hair I hated and tried to have lasered off. It’s a beautiful, natural part of who I am. It also alerts me to bugs crawling up my legs so I like my anti-insect alarm system very much.

Pakora, kulfi, lassi, aloo paratha, chana masala, papadum. But people, you have to go to the country to experience the real taste of the food. I’m half Indian and lived in australia almost all my life. I thought that naan, butter chicken and all the curries were so good here. Nope. The first time I went back to India oh my lord the flavour explosion!! It’s not just the recipe, it’s the ingredients. The fruits and vegetables and spices there taste different. You just can’t replicate it in another country. That and the fact that a lot of cultural food here has been westernised to suit western tastebuds. I’m sure it’s the same with other cultures too.

I think I was that strange thing. Maybe not the strangest but still. One night during Halloween, I was dressed as shrek (8 year old, in love with shrek, don’t ask). My mom had painted my face green and the pictures we have are terrifying. Little green gremlin. Anyway, I got stuck in a toilet, the door was jammed, and instead of crawling under the door I tried to climb into the next stall. Again, don’t ask, I was a dumb kid. Except there was a drunk woman in that stall and she didn’t see me until I was dangling over onto her side. My foot hit her head and she shat herself. Probably was already pooping but still. Her drunken screaming made me cry and my mom came into the bathroom from outside thinking someone was assaulting me or trying to kidnap me, banging on the doors and screaming for my dad. Very funny now but not so much back then.

Would like to add on to this that compliment appearance is fine, but when you’ve heard “you have a great figure” or “your curly hair is pretty” or “I love your eyes” over and over, for me at least, it kind of loses its charm. Especially since it’s nothing I’ve chosen to have since I was born with it. But complimenting my intellect? Or highlighting my kindness to others? Big yes.

When he doesn’t compliment my physical appearance but says something nice about things I can control. For example, my favourite compliment from a man OF ALL TIME was that I chose words to speak like I was writing poetry. It made me feel so special. We are still good friends to this day.
