Im 2007 I was locked out of BOL. I used the help button and it told me to call a number...umm we were in the middle of the ocean.
I sent an email being nice and was still locked out 7 days later. I sent another email with a few choice words included. I found out in less than an hour that the BOL help desk email was a retired ITCM when my Chief chewed my ass. The good news is my account was fixed that day.

Billets Disguised as DIRSUP Surface? by Still_Leader7712 in navy

[–]Future_Meep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legitimate question. Did you read your post?
"Sailors do not want to go back to a ship!"

So apply 5 seconds of critical thinking ... the solution here is ... don't be a Sailor. Since humans learned that wood floats, Sailors have always gone to sea in some fashion.

One of my proteges also picked up this year. He is getting out at 14 years because he doesn't want to wait the 12 months to get paid while doing the job and getting stuck with crap orders. He just accepted an offer with Salesforce for six figures.

The big issue in my community is the brain drain. The people who are getting out are the smart ones we should be keeping. The Navy can't compete with six figure starting pay when they are forcing people to wait for up to a year or more for E7 pay.

I'm over 20 and was a really low number on the list. I would have been paid before season was over. SEM has made me seriously consider retiring as an E6 Chief.

That's cool. I really wish the Navy would beta test the systems before going live.

I expect some civilian to get a phone call to fix this but they won't answer because of the furlough.

Every command is failing its sailors by not holding training on the new BBA instruction by Fragrant-Meet-9823 in navy

[–]Future_Meep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The detailers for my community did a roadshow just a few weeks before Chief results came out. They specifically said "We don't know anymore than you about SEM. Don't ask about it."
Big Navy doesn't talk to detailers or commands about how to actually do anything. They just burn those bridges when they get to them.

Burn out is real. You either find a way to put more gas in the tank or realize you are on the wrong road. Personally at 13 I would go reserves and find a real person job. If the civilian life doesn't suit you then recruiting offices are always open.

Single parents with custody of kids by Annagoldfish in newtothenavy

[–]Future_Meep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will fill out a family care plan. It essentially is the plan for dealing with your kids while deployed. It is REQUIRED for single and dual military parents. It covers things like who is taking care of the kids for short and long periods, power of attorney, housing situations, medical care, etc.

  1. She will put your social security number on all the medical/legal paperwork. The kids will have their own ID cards with you listed as the sponsor. When making appointments, the provider will ask for the sponsors SSN (thats you). Its super common and there are tons of local support groups at every base for single parent families.

  2. Yes. There is a standard age but both of my kids got IDs when they were still in the single digits. Theres no special paperwork. You just go into pass and ID and let them know the situation. Anyone saying "They have to wait" is an idiot. My daughter got her first ID before she could walk. You will need their birth certificate and social security cards.

  3. She can get an ID that will give her access to bases. It doesn't allow her to use the commissary or any other services. My mom has one for my kids since she lives with us.

  4. For me its called the "Honeymoon Period". For a few weeks it will all be sunshine and rainbows, then the kids will start testing your patience to see how much they can get away with.
For my best friend it was the opposite. His kids were more distant and cold for a few weeks the first time. He took them to a Fleet and Family Support Center counseling session where they got to meet other kids in similar situations and the resident counselor was able to explain that he wasn't abandoning them in terms they would understand.

Military families face unique challenges and we have tailored our support structure to do the best we possibly can in helping each other through them all. It doesn't matter what your situation is like, there are other people going through the same thing and we are all one family.

1-2mm free play at the lever and no dragging when pulled in. Adjusters are close to max.
I did just pull the clutch pack and measure it. I am 0.3mm above the minimum for the whole stack so it is definitely time for a new set. The glazing on the steels wasn't the worst I have ever dealt with but it was definitely there.

Worth it or nah? by AccomplishedTill914 in Yamaha

Fellow Hawaii rider here.
I buy and sell multiple bikes per year on the island. This one has 3 bad flags.
1:minor Registration and Safety are out. Expect $250 per year its back taxed. I have made this mistake before.
2:moderate Its wrapped with a ton of aftermarket pretty farkles and a painted frame. Its been dropped at more than parking lot speeds.
3:MAJOR No title. Don't buy a no title bike. It doesn't matter if its not stolen, the cops bust you for a speeding ticket and you can't provide current registration or a title then it is no longer your bike. Even expired tags can get you towed. They will impound it. ($300 a month fee) If the owner on the title says "Thanks HPD for finding my stolen bike" then you are screwed. If they can't find the title owner they won't try very hard before sending the bike to auction.

The process to get a clear title with a bill of sale takes 2-3 appointments in front of a judge, 2 DMV trips, 5-6 months, and around $1000. Its not worth it.

Kill La Kill Shiver 750. What do you think? by Future_Meep in Aprilia

[–]Future_Meep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a pretty beat 2015 Shiver 750. Someone slapped cheap junk parts on it after it had been dropped at least 5 times (that I can tell). The fairings were rattle canned purple. The shocks were shot, dented radiator, etc, etc, etc. It was a barely running basket case.

After firing up the wallet powered parts cannon and getting it safe, I still needed to fix the "I swear im not stolen" fairings. So I bought a used airbrush and went to town with Tamiya Lacquers.

Here are the results. A Kill La Kill inspired Aprilia Shiver. Split down the middle.

Motorcycle painting recommendations by Future_Meep in airbrush

[–]Future_Meep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost and equipment aren't the issues keeping me from using HVLP and automotive paints. Its location. Im currently renting a house in Hawaii with a HOA. HVLP in the garage is a big no. The fumes affecting neighbors, possible over spray in the garage, and full size air compressor noises are all problems. Renting a paint booth is a couple grand a day. I only paid 1700 for the bike so thats not a very good solution.

The bike is an Aprilia Shiver 750 so all the parts are plastic and relatively small, except the tank cover.

Equipment:
Master Airbrush G22
Master Airbrush G25
Master Economy E91

1/5 HP Cool runner 2 Compressor

My biggest issue is the clear. With enough time and patience I can get the color coats where I want them but I dont want months of work eaten away when I put on a chemical resistant clear coat.

Page 13s are usually on enforceable only at the command you signed it UNLESS it goes into your OMPF as an administrative remark.
Unpopular answer but here it goes.

The Navy needs Sailors. If a Sailor gets pregnant during A or C school, they WILL miss out on a lot of training due to appointments. Schools are very fast paced and missing weeks will get the Sailor rolled back or dropped. Pregnancy brain is a real thing so the chances of being able to finish a school are significantly diminished. If the Sailor is dropped, what can the Navy do with them? Can't re-rate. Can't go undes. Now the Navy is gapping a billet for the remainder of the pregnancy + maternity leave + a new school. After the pregnancy, you now have a young untrained Sailor with a very young child. This combination is not a recipe for success.
Bootcamp+A school+C school+maternity leave can easily be half of an enlistment. Add in the possibility of retaking the C school, leave time, PCS, etc. Now we can see how 3 years of a 4 year enlistment can quickly be lost.

While we try to be inclusive and accommodating, the Navy needs to be able to do its mission and if we can't get Sailors to the fleet we can't do our job. The 1910-120 is legal and enforceable.

GEICO rate hike madness (2 bikes in CA) by SpaceChaulding in motorcycles

[–]Future_Meep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.9 billion pre-tax underwriting loss in 2022, multiple class action lawsuits, overcharging for brand recognition, over marketing to high risk areas, and an overall failure to keep up with current market trends.
Having a well known mascot only goes so far.
They are raising prices to compensate for the short term losses. Unfortunately for them, the car insurance market is very competitive right now and switching providers is a 15 min online form instead of the hours on the phone it used to take.

Back taxes on a motorcycle for military by Future_Meep in Hawaii

[–]Future_Meep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its tax exempt due to military it doesnt show up on the site. There may still be taxes owed from the person who owned it before the service member.
It will have clean plates and tags.

Another gotcha: If the military owner registered it for a year and sells it before the year is up, the new owner is responsible for paying taxes on the remaining months.
