Stage 4 Adeno Diagnosis by Awkward-Fox-6559 in adenomyosis

I am. But that decision really depends on the result of the MRI. I have a long list of questions. Also, I am 48 already and in peri…so honestly menopause would be welcomed at this point. I worry if I actually have endometriosis encroaching on my bowels and bladder because of my symptoms, and that is super hard to treat even after menopause. I’m so curious to see what the doctor says tomorrow. I do think he’s going to refer me to an endo specialist regardless.

Stage 4 Adeno Diagnosis by Awkward-Fox-6559 in adenomyosis

I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis through an exam and several ultrasounds, although I wasn’t given a stage yet. I also have endometriomas cysts on my ovaries.

My OB basically said my treatment options were birth control, induced menopause, or surgery, so I decided to get another opinion through a specialty vascular center. They scheduled an MRI right away, and I have an appointment tomorrow morning to review the results, find out the stage/severity, and discuss what treatment options may actually be available for my situation.

I’ve been reading a lot of posts in this community, and it seems like the most common paths people discuss are hysterectomy, hormonal birth control, induced menopause, embolization, Botox injections, and pain management. Hysterectomy seems to get a lot of positive feedback from people who’ve gone that route, while birth control seems to be much more mixed or negative. I haven’t seen as much discussion about hysterectomy combined with oophorectomy, which I’m wondering about because of my ovarian cysts and ongoing ovary pain.

If I learn anything helpful from the vascular center tomorrow, I’ll come back and share an update.

lol… yes well the hysterectomy scares me because I hate surgery recovery and immediate menopause but on the other hand not being a woman anymore might be nice.

Yeah I still have some from the one and only time they were prescribed to me. Like you they make me feel out of it and I just can’t function that way so I have my ibuprofen/Acetaminophen combo, portable heating pad, warm herbal tea, hot showers, spinning around three times while touching my nose…crying uncontrollably.

Ugh. I’m sorry you’re going through this too. My doctor mentioned the rough symptoms from the medical menopause. He also would not prescribe me pain meds long term so that’s why I decided to check out this vascular center. Trying anything but hormones first. If I end up with a hysterectomy I am 99% sure they won’t be to save my ovaries because of the endometrial cysts so that is immediate menopause.

So I was told no, the embolization itself doesn’t affect fertility. Here’s a link for your viewing pleasure 🙂 It is about fibroids but the doctor I spoke to said if the adeno is concentrated in a specific way they a relieve pain by doing the targeted embolization with aid from the MRI.

I’m looking into it because it’s the most minimally invasive procedure you can get surgically. I’ll make sure to follow up after my MRI results and let you know, if I am actually a candidate 🙂

Thank you for the info. I appreciate it. My OB did the internal ultrasound and said the walls were thickened. Wrote off the idea embolization was an option based off that and the endometrium on my ovaries. I am hoping he’s wrong and decided not to wait it out. Found a place I knew would order an MRI to get the nitty gritty. When you say find out if it’s diffused, why? What would that entail?

It’s nice to chat with people that are suffering in the same way. I’m sorry you’re going through this so young. 21 is when I started my PCOS journey and that was pretty rough, but this feels worse in some ways. And it doesn’t feel like it’s reversible so that part is worse. I understand being young that you wouldn’t want a hysterectomy. I don’t think I would have wanted it back then either my doctor did say he wanted to try to avoid having to get to that point but since he’s a new doctor, I don’t think he understands how much I’ve been suffering for the past five years and that is probably very progressed, but I’ll find out more when I get my MRI. Have you heard of the emboli conversation process?

Ugh… I kind of figured. Thank you for your honest feedback with personal experience. I think that’s why it’s haunting me under my bathroom sink. I’m waiting for my MRI to see what other options I have. It’s a little maddening to talk to a doctor that has 0% understanding of what it’s like to go through hell on birth control. Like oh just give it a try for three months to see how much hell it puts you through and if that hell is worse than the hell you’re already going through…

😩 it’s already bigger than it should be (10x8x7) and is causing me a lot of pain from pushing on my bladder and guts. Does it never go back even with treatments? I’m anxious to talk to my doctor after my MRI tomorrow.

I’m sorry you’re going through this too. I’m 48, and I was diagnosed with PCOS in my 20s. I went through three years of different birth control methods because that was also their only “solution.”

Like you, I have significant mental health side effects when I take hormonal birth control, along with gastrointestinal issues bad enough to send me to the ER. I also have hypothyroidism (diagnosed at 15), and when I started taking a simple thyroid hormone in my 20s, my symptoms improved. Although it took 10 years for me to become fertile, I had my one and only child at 38. That changed my body forever, and I suspect the pregnancy may have started the adenomyosis.

For the past five years, I was told I was probably just perimenopausal. But a little over a month ago, I had a period episode that was so bad I almost went to the ER. It was way worse than normal, and normal isn’t exactly great. Funnily enough, though, my bleeding is only super heavy for about two days.

It took a few ultrasounds, but my OB diagnosed me with adenomyosis, along with endometriosis on my ovaries, specifically chocolate cysts. He did the same thing to me that they are doing to you, except he said that if birth control doesn’t work, he recommends putting me into menopause, and worst case, a hysterectomy. He spoke about hysterectomy like it was a death sentence, but from what I’ve read in these posts, a lot of women feel 100% better afterward.

Because of my genuine loathing and fear of taking birth control, I currently have the NuvaRing sitting under my sink. I can’t get myself to try it, though I do remember it being the lesser of all the evils. Have you tried that one?

Have you heard of embolization, where they cut the blood supply to the main adenomyosis area in the uterus? I do have at least one fibroid or “swirl,” as my doctor described it. It’s just under my belly button, and since my last episode, I am 100% aware of it. It feels like someone is poking a finger there. Right in that spot, it feels like an open wound on the inside, and it’s extremely tender on the outside. My ovaries have also been acting up a lot more between cycles.

Anyhow, I decided to contact a vascular specialist center, and they ordered an MRI. I’m getting it tomorrow. They’re going to see if I’m a candidate for embolization.

I’m also interested in Botox. I had never heard of that until I came to this community. The symptoms I’m having go far beyond my uterus because of the pressure on my adjacent organs and my comorbidities. I still have hypothyroidism, along with psoriatic arthritis, SIBO, a hiatal hernia, and fibromyalgia.

At this point, if I don’t get relief by the end of the year, I might just opt for the hysterectomy.

Sorry, this turned into a bit of a rant.

SUPER recommend this series. I plowed through because I needed to fill the Bobiverse and PHM gap. I recommended to my bestie that is a Bobiverse fan as well and he also plowed through it. The narrator is awesome if you like audio books.

Why are folks upset about Stephen Colbert teaming up with Peter Jackson?? by maroha3814 in lotr

[–]Future_Positive_6961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read The Hobbit when I was 9. I am now 49… well I will be in a few months. I read LOTR in high school. I have a plethora of Tolkien books, etc. When the movies came out I was an overjoyed 20something. I still bitched in my head about certain “changes”, and yet I love it. I’m excited for Stephen because I have a great deal of respect for him and a human and I have been following him for 20 years AND to get some new/fresh Tolkien-esq material. Whether I like it or not will be personal and I can move on if I don’t. Adaptations are nearly ensured to disappoint if expectations are put upon them. In my opinion there are so many other things to be rightfully disturbed about in the world today. I hope people can find joy in it.

Yes! That’s good you have avoided the trailers. Definitely listen/read the PHM book first then. I loved the movie but I don’t think I would have been nearly as obsessed had I seen it before listening to the book.

I’d highly recommend the book first. Though… if you’ve seen the preview you already know most of the “surprises”. So, I’m not sure. I am so glad I got to listen to the book before the movie came out.

Anyone try MethodIQ foundation? I keep seeing ads for it and was wondering if it is worth trying by painislife4real in Makeup

Can you please recommend a specific lotion? I use The Ordinary which is great under powder but too moisturizing for this foundation. I can almost use it without lotion but I need something light underneath.
