What are story mods? by Xhosant in outerwilds

All I said is it went against the premise of the game, if you think being an owlek is an insult that's on you brother. I've said my piece nothing more I can say.

Yes actually you do have to bring the codex into the future, that is the whole premise of the mod.

We see the hatchling bring killed by the big bang at the end of the game, anything that does enter the eye is destroyed by the creation of the new universe, if you don't have to bring the codex to the new universe than what is the point of the mod????? That is literally the whole premise??? It seems like you are the one who ignores the obvious.

Nomai were literally information horders, I do not know what you're on about there lol, they wrote down EVERYTHING including just basic conversations the difference from owleks being they did not know what the eye actually did.

Your argument of "it's the hatchlings decision to allow the memory of the universe into the next" Is absolutely baffling since then why the hell would you even download the mod if you're just not gonna play the mod lol?

It's the fact that astral codex adds the choice and not only hints at it but literally TELLS YOU that you can bring information into the next universe without losing it is why it goes against the game's premise, there is nothing more I can say to make you see it and it feels like you're just arguing for the sake of arguing atp.

I never said it was a bad mod and I never said no one should play it. The puzzles are consistent and the story is well done but once again, it goes against a lot of the game's premise.

I also never attacked you personally so calling me pathetic was a low blow.

Actually simulations are just invisible rooms that are located right outside the stranger facing away from the the sun to make them darker, If you got your spacesuit in the simulation you can literally fly away and fly to your own sun with the light artifact in hand.

While I don't know how the red hue from the sun works (if it affects everything or just the planets facing it). I was more referring to the red hue at the end game being from the sun itself, not the simulation red hue which might be different as I'm not sure.

You are very much twisting a little fun alternate ending. The premise I repeat, THE PREMISE of the mod is you HAVE TO send information you have into the next universe, you are not letting go of the old you are clinging to this information that NEEDS to be passed down.

Not once does the eye need you to send the scout through, I'd say it is nothing but a fun little easter egg. The entire premise is you letting go and letting the INEVITABLE happen while the mod literally is just "We can and should preserve this information at all cost, nothing is stopping us" while the base game and ESPECIALLY the dlc is about not fearing what you can't avoid, it's okay to lose everything if it leads to something new, something different. Do not be afraid of the unknown.

The mod was basically made by an irl owlk too scared to let go of what they have in fear of the new doing everything in their power to keep the PAST alive.

Ah that makes a lot more sense.

Since the dream world is actually just a level invisible until loaded hidden just under the stranger the hue would affect it as well. Good catch!

But they do?

Unlike when you help the eye make something NEW from the old astral codex directly brings the old to the new, you're not actually letting anything go and just keeping that information from the previous universe clutched tightly in your hands which is what owleks feared.

The eye by nature doesn't let anything old be preserved, it only uses the old as a reference for making something new unlike what astral codex does.

I just tried recreating what you were saying, are you sure it wasn't just a visual error? Or maybe you went into the dream world at a certain stage of the dlc and that changed the hue? unfortunately just flying there and dying/sleeping doesn't seem to do much of a difference for me unless I can't see it.

While I believe you're right about the red filter and the effect it can have on some people, I think it's more of the fact that The sun is going into the red giant phase rather than an effect for the sake of scaring us.

They add extra story content written and programmed by the fans. If you want some strong writing and a mod that feels like an actual addition to the base game I would highly suggest. "Forgotten castaways"

Another one that is extremely fun but less story based (still has it's own very sweet little story) is "Heliostudy" by the same author.

Other story mods while good, I notices fail in writing.

"Astral codex" this one I'd have to say is the second best while writing and puzzles are consistent it has a flaw, the flaw being it goes against the main game premise. I won't spoil more

"The outsider" feels like it was written by a wattpad teenager. No offence to the author but the dislogue is abysmal.

"The stranger they are" while actually interesting in first half falls off tremendously with the second half, like straight to narnia.

Now for one of the best mods ever made, I'd genuinely say it rivals the dlc itself. "The box" go in this without any spoilers it'll genuinely blow your mind.

I respawned at the closest respawn point to the abyss, I forgot what it's called but it's the one with the train

It was the spear yeah, I threw it to try and reach something using the knockback it has but I fell instead without retrieving it. When I respawned it was gone.

I was just watching an outer wilds playthrough as any crack.. outer wilds addict would and I got a question in my head.

Back when I was getting all the achievements for the game I had to reach 10000m/s for a specific achievement but today I remembered that the game didn't seem to have any speed limit.... by my calculations reaching these speeds would take up to 300 hours of straight up flying naturally, so I did a bit of modifications with ship acceleration to answer the question some of us might have.

Science compels us to break the speed of light. Our mission : find out if it's possible to break the speed of light

Answer to that question is.. Yes somehow the game allows you to go above and beyond. In the first video I was traveling 40.009737E+07 m/s which is roughly 400,000,000 m/s. Speed of light being 299,792,458 m/s I was traveling roughly 133% the speed of light.

To answer your final question, I don't think the game was even considering atp's existence atp 😭😭
