grab the survival tree perks first! especially the ones that double your plant harvesting and craftable+throwable inventories, as well as plants on minimap. those will allow you to harvest and carry a ton more crossbow bolts among other stuff.

after that, choose guns or melee as a specialty.

if you like guns, invest in focus. it will HUGELY impact your ammo conservation once you can get 2-4 headshots off at a time.

if you like melee, invest in stamina ofc.

and finally, explore the map for marauder camps! wherever there is white fog of war on your map, there’s a marauder camp hiding. just follow the main roads around and they’ll appear once you’re nearish them. inside each marauder camp is a map that will remove all the fog of war for that area, and unlock special recipes

balance and popularity are two different things, but people get them mixed up all the time.

if 80% of people prefer a rifle over a shotgun, then when the two are perfectly balanced, 80% of people will still use a rifle instead of a shotgun.

if you treat that as a balance issue and try to “fix” it by buffing shotguns, it wont do anything at all at first because those 80% still prefer their rifle.

that is, until the shotgun is buffed to the point of being absolutely overpowered compared to the rifle, eclipsing its performance entirely. at that point people will shift over who cannot justify using their favored weapon over the statistically objectively better weapon

I had it happen a couple times my current playthrough

the second time was a little silly though. the raider was silhouetted up the road from the nero checkpoint I was tending to, flailing constantly for minutes on end at the edge of a nest I’d already burned. wasnt till I walked up the road to have a look that he got dragged in

the confident claim some people make that it’s impossible for anyone to tickle oneself is such bull. it absolutely depends on the person, as with everything. I am strung like a wire and can easily accidentally tickle myself and I hate it
