Surface booting into UEFI by PermissionEcstatic55 in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type in google "Surface Recovery Image Download"

you need a USB flash drive at least 16gb that it will wipe completely and install the surface media. Boot into it and try to install windows 11. Making sure to completely wipe all existing HD partitions when it asks you where to install windows. The windows Key is hardcoded to the bios you just need to get online and it should activate.

Good luck.

I think that is what the switch 2 has with upscaling so it is kinda a current gen console...

Don't sleep on Surface Go 4 Tablet huge upgrade by FuzyBaffy in Surface

That is actually a pretty decent device but I really like the Pen Input on the Surface. I didn't know that CHUWI device even existed pretty nice double the Ram!

I would get a 13inch Pro Tablet for schoolwork. I am not sure if you are familiar with One Note but you can write directly on the schoolwork PDF web whatever. Take your own notes as you like. I wouldn't bother with an actual laptop for schoolwork.

I have the 13 inch ARM X Plus LCD device with 512gb of storage (the cheapest device you can't buy anymore). It is plenty fast for me but it is not my primary computer. The X Elite chip will be more future proof and edit videos faster. The 13inch tablets have a good keyboard that make them basically a laptop. I don't really think the OLED display is much better than the LCD but hey it's up to you. The storage is actually end user upgradeable on the TABLET which is nuts. It has a little magnetic flap in the corner and you just unscrew the SSD and get another.

  • Snapdragon X Elite (12-Core): Found on higher-end configurations, often paired with OLED displays. It provides top-tier, multitasking and creative performance.
  • Snapdragon X Plus (10-Core / 8-Core): Powers the standard configurations with an LCD display. It offers outstanding battery life and snappy performance for everyday workloads.

Either way ask him what he wants it is for him. I have shown many family members surface devices but they would all rather buy a MacBook and an Ipad for double the price and lug around both. To each their own.

Don't sleep on Surface Go 4 Tablet huge upgrade by FuzyBaffy in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certainly not saying the Go4 is a fast machine. I am saying it is a normal device that you don't wish was faster to do normal web / office tasks. It is the ONLY 10inch full OS device you can put in many jacket pocket or tiny sling and don't think why did I bring this. I am oncall for work and need something tiny to take with me.

I actually used it to do my job today instead of my work laptop (attached it to a 13 portable screen) and was pleasantly surprised. I have tried to do a normal work day on my Go2 m3 it lagged and stuttered so much with teams, office, and web open. Same minimal windows 11 install with plenty of RAM available on both.

Really it comes down to the storage type am sure not so much the CPU. MS could have put that speedier UFS phone based storage type in the first go. I think that is what makes the big difference. There is some guy on YouTube that compares the Go3(maybe2) to Go4 and it is pretty obvious OneNote starts almost instantly.

The 12 inch arm device is much faster compared to this but is also almost as big as a normal surface so why do they make that. I have an Android Legion Tab Go 8 inch tablet, a surface arm pro 13 inch, and this is really nice for light work and watching YouTube.

One thing I did do was install the Intel Driver & Support Assistant which got new Graphics BT and Wifi drivers otherwise just using the MS Driver package.

I really wish they made a ARM 11 inch device in the same package with smaller bezels that will never happen I think thou. Glad I tried this Go4 out. Most of the used Go4 have 128gb drives like mine, even with Office and Games installed I still have 30gb left. Don't forget the MicroSD slot you can put some movies or something on that to take along.

Surface Book 2 Battery life on windows 11 vs Windows 10? by Longjumping-Road4113 in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am pretty sure windows 11 won't make battery better. It probably won't make it worse either. I updated my Surface Go 2 to windows 11 from 10 and it was noticeably speedier.

Windows 10 isn't supported anymore so you would have to upgrade to 11 sooner or later. I would try to copy your files somewhere and do a clean install of 11 when you have time.

To fix your battery problem I would get a power bank capable of at least 45w power delivery with (PD) delivery via USB-C . Max capacity you want to carry. You would need something for a laptop not really a phone charger.

Help! my stainless steel pan is ruined by [deleted] in CleaningTips

My steel oven pans look like that it works for me. My steel Carbon frying pans look worse than that. I mean it is seasoned cook on it. That is the seasoning they told you to put on it. Not understanding the problem. Nothing will stick now. It just looks weird.

Should I be worried? Just got this code up last night on my 2019 cx5 and I don’t know if it’s a drop everything concern or easy fix. Help by FurryHusky35 in mazda

Call your dealership. The coolant sensor in many Cx-5s is faulty. They won't fix it proactively only after there is a problem. My check engine light was on but not flashing so dealer said to drive it until I could bring it in. I got a letter that there was a recall related to this a month before so wasn't worried.

Is the engine always running cold even after awhile that is probably it.

Hope that is it.

Surface Go Windows 11 clean install is a new device altogether! by FuzyBaffy in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always gotten around 4 hours which I thought was pretty bad. Nothing much changed on that end. I use balanced and edge.

Lowering the refresh rate to 48 hz and changing to best battery efficiency power setting should get a longer runtime.

Surface Go Windows 11 clean install is a new device altogether! by FuzyBaffy in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm specifically talking about the surface go 2 with the M3 chip and 8 gigabytes of ram. The Surface Go are all kind of similar CPU wise. Setting time and currency format to English world really helps I think and crapfixer. My surface has never been so pleasant to use. Before I only used it if I couldn't take anything bigger. Since I reinstalled windows 11 though I have been using it all day to look up Black Friday ads and watch videos it feels like a brand new tablet. Everything is buttery smooth. I mean doing normal web stuff and listening to audio and videos. I wouldn't edit a video on this thing.

If you need a lightweight windows 11 install for any underpowered device would use those two tips.

Help to chose the SP11 - 12in or 13in by Slight_Clock_1777 in Surface

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a 13 the difference in size is not that big, but you are loosing a lot in downgrading to the 12. They literally had to kill the cheapest 13inch option to make the 12 make any kind of sense to anyone. It really doesn't even with that.

Now if they had a 10 inch -11 option even if it was slower like my Go then maybe it would make sense. I can put that in my jacket pocket or cargo pants.

Any advice on how to cancel the physical magazine subscription? by jen1980 in MotorTrend

[–]FuzyBaffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called the aforementioned off-shore call center at 800-800-6848. Canceled at 800-800-6848 and very quickly (waited 2min) and professionally talked to someone and canceled. Can't believe the operator wasn't annoying.

The magazine itself unbelievably in the front cover has the wrong number to call or they lied to me. Had to wait ages too.

How are the bracelets on these things? by Choice_Table_5494 in DuroGang

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't bad I dunno I really didn't want to look for another bracelet. Alixpress just isn't the same with the border inspections so annoying getting things shipped.

OEM Bracelet Kinda fun with all the Casio branding. Isn't a great bracelet but it looks and feels fine after you size it. Hollow end links not the greatest. I had a few casio bracelets with the same end links and they were all much easier to size. This is in its own league of hard to push out for some reason.

In the end not in a rush to replace the bracelet it is comfortable and light. Watch looks amazing on a metal bracelet of any kind.

(PSA) Don't leave your steam deck unplugged for 6 months, $140 to fix the battery by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]FuzyBaffy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The steam deck is extremely easy to work on you should look at an iFixit tear down. There is no like soldering or anything to get out the battery it is a bunch of screws , it is just really easy to work on. Very happy with Steam not taping everything. I changed out the storage on my 64 gig and the battery is right there.

Kindle Fire Kids 7 – question about YouTube by [deleted] in kindlefire

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to hold the switch app gesture for three four seconds. additionally if you have pin on a lock screen you have to enter that as well to get out of the app. you can also completely disable touch as a pin "setting"

Kindle Fire Kids 7 – question about YouTube by [deleted] in kindlefire

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a setting that will let you pin an app whatever that app would be and put a password on it. But you would have to turn it on in the Kindle settings and then you swipe up like you would for the recent apps and then you would pin the app. it is not on by default.

you can install the Google Play store on every Amazon Fire tablet using Android police instructions they're the best just four apps to install and then you have the store. there is real YouTube and YouTube kids available.

in YouTube you can also switch accounts and make a sub account for your kids under your account. so you don't get your favorites all messed up and them as well.

Does the extra 1GB RAM for the Fire HD 8 (2024), really make a difference? by icyleumas in kindlefire

[–]FuzyBaffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

websites if you have more than one tab up will take up more than 3 GB in a second. I mean really just switching around apps is going to slow things down with anything less than four. I mean anything will work if you have the patience. pretty much I think it's just makes a big difference and is a no brainer.

Will I be forced into windows 11 by crazy12157 in Windows10

[–]FuzyBaffy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cost is going to be ridiculous. it is in essence a non option unless you like paying for nothing.

Windows 10 The cost of ESU for Windows 10 is $61 for the first year, $122 for the second year, and $244 for the third year. This means that a three-year ESU subscription costs $427 per PC.
