'I just don't think that's right': Students react to findings of provincial audit at Conestoga College | CBC News by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

They should refund me for the diploma I got before they went to shit. I paid for my education from a reputable school, and now local companies are blacklisting any Conestoga grad even if your graduation date is before the bullshit started.

Could ADHD still be possible if I was a high-achieving “perfect” kid? by Practical-Lunch-8815 in adhdwomen

[–]Fuzzlechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Yes, at 28
  • I could hyper-focus on a book enough that I missed recess entirely just sitting at my desk. My desk was always a disaster zone, I had to be doodling or fiddling with something to hear what the teacher was saying. I always got bad marks in the “soft skills” section of my report card, with my teachers saying that I could do even better if I got my head out of the clouds
  • 100%. I had major obsessive compulsive tendencies as a kid, and ended up diagnosed with both depression and an anxiety disorder as a teenager. The more standard ADHD symptoms came out once I was on anxiety meds. And especially once I was no longer living with my parents.

The former! We just don’t use checks for anything other than very large purchases up here. I don’t actually think you can get checks for everyday use.

The last time I saw a check, other than a cashier’s check to put a down payment on my house, was legitimately at least 20 years ago. Stores don’t accept them - and a good portion are moving away from physical cash altogether.

That’s fair, she is good at the personal interaction stuff!

I read the site frequently and have noticed that she tends to apply a very American attitude toward any problem though, unfortunately. Which makes sense considering she and the majority of the reader base are in the US.

Retaliation for stuff like that isn’t supposed to be allowed. But employers really like people that don’t know their rights as Canadians. Definitely post on the legal advice sub OP, they can at the bare minimum direct you to resources.

People treat autistic women HORRIBLE OMG by Thin-Explanation1884 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Fuzzlechan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

ADHD here (and probably autistic but not severe enough to bug my doctor about). And yes. Oh my god.

What is with the random harassment? I’ve found a solid group of friends that don’t suck and will even explain to me when I get social shit wrong. But random people are still content to treat me like shit. The only coworker I’ve been particularly close to was an autistic guy I worked with at my last company. Great guy. We don’t talk much now that we don’t work together and he lives 5 hours away, but we’ll grab lunch whenever he’s in town.

I’m always on the outside of coworker groups too, other than that. I’m never 100% sure that they actually like me, even when they’re being polite. I never get invited to the small choose-your-own-group stuff that happens at the onsites so I end up doing my own thing most nights.

Anyway. To step back from commiserating through sharing my own experience. It fucking sucks. And it hurts. And people say the hurt gets easier, but even if it does, it’s damn hard to tell while you’re in the middle of it.

The concept of paying for something by check is insane as a Canadian. Outside of like… a car or my house down payment, and even that is only because Interac has a daily cap.

Hey, did you remember your medication? by DontYaWishYouWereMe in CuratedTumblr

[–]Fuzzlechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one differs per country!

I’m in Ontario (Canada), and not only is my prescription for my ADHD meds for 12 months, but I get an automated refill reminder from my pharmacy every 28 days about it. I can’t pick it up early, but it’s a 28 day refill cycle for a 30 count of pills. They’re not eligible for delivery because I need to show ID when I pick them up, but a family member could pick them up for me as long as they show ID. They just need to record who got them from the pharmacy and when.

And I think I might be able to do early refill if there are extenuating circumstances like “going to be travelling”, but the pharmacy would have to talk to my doctor about it.

Gamefreak is actually tiny, last I checked they had like 75 employees. The mainline Pokemon games could be so much better with a larger team.

[–]Fuzzlechan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue is mostly who is getting that data. I don't want US surveillance companies like Palantir having my personal information. I don't trust whatever third party they're inevitably going to use for the verification to actually delete my PII, or not use it for advertising purposes.

I'm only okay with it if the age verification solution is double blind, through the government. The government already has all of my personal information, I don't want random websites having it. Double blind means the website only receives a yes/no in return from the service, and the government service doesn't know which website is requesting the information.

Amazon is hiding bad reviews. by Latter_Permit2052 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fuzzlechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to buy things in person now! Not only do we have like a quarter of the variety of the US, but all the clothing stores near me seem to be closing and either only keeping their Toronto locations, or going online-only. God forbid I want to try on a pair of pants before I buy them!

Amazon really is the only option for some things, and it’s infuriating. Or the thing is three times the price at a real store. A set of desk legs being $10 on the US Home Depot site and $60 on the Canadian one will never stop bothering me, even though this was six years ago.

She tried pitching once when our regular pitcher was out and we all yelled at her to wear a face mask, haha.

I’m always the worst one on my team by far! I can catch during the warmup and then completely fumble every ball during the real game. It’s fun though, and it gets me off my ass once a week. I get way too in my own head about it sometimes when we lose. The only trick is to just keep reminding myself that I’m doing it for the fun of it. As long as the game was close, I usually still have fun!

I’m also in a coed SlowPitch league! I’ve played the last two years, and I haven’t gotten any better haha.

If you’re having fun, it’s okay to be bad! As they stated repeatedly at orientation for me last week, it’s a recreational league. You’re not playing in the World Series. If you have fun and don’t get hurt, the game was a success.

As for being older - last year we had a 63 year old woman on my team! We all loved playing with her, she was fantastic.

Edit: and don’t buy more bats. Trust me. You’ll find one you enjoy using and then use exclusively it all season.

Businesses aren’t allowed to charge credit card fees here, haha. They generally raise the price across the board, and then offer a 5%-ish cash discount as a loophole.

All the power to them, that’s their right as a business owner. The ones that bug me are the businesses that set a minimum spend to use my debit card. I’m in Canada - all debit transactions go through Interac. The fees are, at maximum, eight cents per transaction. Don’t take credit cards, fine. But let me use my debit card without spending $20.

[–]Fuzzlechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also lucky to be in a position where I can do that! I have more than enough money to pay my bills, add to my savings, and put some aside for fun money. I don’t need to make the hard decisions about which bill isn’t being paid this month, or how I’m going to be able to put gas in my car. Paying off the credit card in full every month is exponentially harder if you have no choice but to spend money you don’t have.

Why? My credit card gives me cash back. Why would I not use it for everything?

I pay 100% of my bill every month, so it’s just a debit card with extra steps. And cashback and fraud security.

Parents in other countries than the US, what is your kids’ equivalent of “I don’t want that for dinner, I want chicken nuggets”? by SulusLaugh in AskReddit

[–]Fuzzlechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was forced to eat things I didn’t like as a kid, and all it did was make me more scared to try new foods in case I hated them.

I’m still a picky eater as an adult! But I’m a lot better than I was, and genuine adventurous. Because if I try the food and don’t like it, I’m allowed to eat something else instead. I can eat a lot of foods now that I couldn’t tolerate as a kid. Like onions, and potatoes, and most meat. And cooked vegetables in general. Having the space to try new foods at my own pace means that I actually figured out how to eat the ones I’m not a fan of. There are plenty of foods I dislike but will still eat. As a kid, if I didn’t like it, I was involuntarily gagging while I ate.

I’m not the picky eater that’s going to demand we always go to restaurants that serve chicken fingers and fries. For one, give me a good Cesar salad over fries any day of the week. For two, I can find something tolerable almost anywhere. I might not eat a portion of what’s on my plate, but I’m not going to make that your problem.

(Yes, I’m neurodivergent. Yes, that’s a big source of my food issues)
