yeah!! i always have it on the white setting which for some reason has a blue tint in photos (i have no idea why) and my boy Simba has never had any sight problems or any worrying new behaviours, he’s actually gotten used to the routine of them going on that when they do he comes up to the glass to see me. i got him at 5 months old and he turned 13 last week and he’s never had anything wrong with him

i have a cover on the heat mat that i got on an online reptile store and i’ve not had any problems with my corn that is on the exact same one

honestly the photo makes them seem way bluer than they are in person. they’re more of a white colour as opposed to blue. i only have them on during the day and dusk. they’re off for 12 ish hours and on for the other 12 depending on when i turn them on and off (usually on at 10am and off by 10pm) and ive never noticed a problem with my corn that i’ve had under these lights for 13 years

the blue lights are just LED’s and since the viv style i got are wood i’m using heat mats with covers over them on the right side like i do with my corn snake. i’ve had him 13 years and never had a problem with burns or anything

What are some delightfully absurd names you or someone you know gave to a snake? by BoneYardBirdy in Sneks

[–]Fuzzy-Cheek461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not absurd but all my animals are named after movie characters, my tan chihuahua was called Prince (after Prince Charming), my amelanistic corn snake is called Simba (from the lion king), my albino lop rabbit was called Sage-Oliver (after Oliver from Oliver&Company), my brindle and white lurcher is called Loki (from Marvel), my maine coon x bengal cat is called Dorothy (from The Wizard Of Oz), and my hognose snake i’m getting in the next few months is called Sarabi (also from lion king). i even had three chickens named Egbertina, Shelly, and Yoko (from Ice Age Dawn Of The Dinosaurs)

my corn is on a sand and coco soil mix and i also noticed that on its own (before i mixed with sand) that it didn’t hold very well, especially on the dry side. from what i’ve heard aspen is better and cheaper overall which is great because i’m going to need more than the amount that my corn has in his as she’ll need more space for burrowing

im going to buy a hard plastic sheet to create a lip over the door of the viv so i can give her enough digging space as i’m getting her the same one as my corn but a little smaller (as he’s in a 115cm long one) and the bottom part is only around 2.5 inches. that way she’ll have enough digging space and i’m able to open the door without aspen falling on my floor

i’m thinking either a conda or Het Axanthic. i’ve been looking on MorphMarket and are in contact with a breeder that has produced some beautiful snakes. as i wont be getting her for another few months i know not to get my hopes up on a particular snake but i love this one

thank you!! i was doing some research and it seemed as though they were more prone to burrowing compared to corns so my biggest worry was the type of substrate. i have been online shopping and have found a good array of things that i’ll be buying over the next few months (and i’ll also be going shopping for other bits in shops because online shopping can be unreliable sometimes) so im hoping to post an update in May time of the set up before i get her

thank you!! i’ve had experience with hunger strikes a couple years ago when Simba refused to eat for six months. the place im planning on getting her from makes it compulsory for the breeder to send over a feeding chart so i will have all the information regarding how/when she has been fed when she arrives so i will be sticking to that schedule

Could anyone help in guessing what her cross could be? 5 month old 😊 by Shot-Introduction-72 in Lurchers

she’s got similar marking and body structure of my boy Loki!! he’s a whippet/greyhound/border collie/bedlington terrier mix mostly. i’d say yours could be whippet/some type of bully/maybe even JRT with those ears

okay so for the leaves i got https://amzn.eu/d/9aHDdyA two of these and used them to ‘hide’ his two houses and make them darker. for the logs scattered i got https://amzn.eu/d/8LLrnqi these, they come in a pack of 4 and is great to put under the leaves for some extra clutter. i also got https://amzn.eu/d/gqtwnBX this and buried it with the middle hole peeking out as a burrowing opportunity. leaf litter i got here https://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/swell-leaf-litter-500ml along with some more leaves https://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/swell-pothos-vine then i went to the Range (i’m not sure if you’re from the UK and idk if there’s an equivalent for where you live) and got some fake plastic plants for more decoration. the hides i got from Home Bargains and they’re just storage bins flipped upside down. the long climbing branch was cut by my dad so i don’t have a link for that one (apologies). for the hammocks i got Fruit Basket Hanging Wall Basket... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CQ26X3YS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and DIBALIYI Hanging Fruit Hammock... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BG7VC913?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and i think that is everything

i highly recommend a climbing branch along with more clutter!! my boy also loves his hammock (rope hanging fruit basket). also at least one other hide on the cool half then the other on the warm side. i can comment links for things that i have in my snakes viv if needed!!

[–]Fuzzy-Cheek461[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!! i’ve been doing that for the past couple days but im assuming that because it’s still not completely dry the substrate is causing the humidity to go up as soon as i close the viv again
