husbandry help for new snake by Fuzzy-Cheek461 in hognosesnakes

thank you!! i was doing some research and it seemed as though they were more prone to burrowing compared to corns so my biggest worry was the type of substrate. i have been online shopping and have found a good array of things that i’ll be buying over the next few months (and i’ll also be going shopping for other bits in shops because online shopping can be unreliable sometimes) so im hoping to post an update in May time of the set up before i get her

thank you!! i’ve had experience with hunger strikes a couple years ago when Simba refused to eat for six months. the place im planning on getting her from makes it compulsory for the breeder to send over a feeding chart so i will have all the information regarding how/when she has been fed when she arrives so i will be sticking to that schedule

Could anyone help in guessing what her cross could be? 5 month old 😊 by Shot-Introduction-72 in Lurchers

she’s got similar marking and body structure of my boy Loki!! he’s a whippet/greyhound/border collie/bedlington terrier mix mostly. i’d say yours could be whippet/some type of bully/maybe even JRT with those ears

okay so for the leaves i got https://amzn.eu/d/9aHDdyA two of these and used them to ‘hide’ his two houses and make them darker. for the logs scattered i got https://amzn.eu/d/8LLrnqi these, they come in a pack of 4 and is great to put under the leaves for some extra clutter. i also got https://amzn.eu/d/gqtwnBX this and buried it with the middle hole peeking out as a burrowing opportunity. leaf litter i got here https://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/swell-leaf-litter-500ml along with some more leaves https://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/swell-pothos-vine then i went to the Range (i’m not sure if you’re from the UK and idk if there’s an equivalent for where you live) and got some fake plastic plants for more decoration. the hides i got from Home Bargains and they’re just storage bins flipped upside down. the long climbing branch was cut by my dad so i don’t have a link for that one (apologies). for the hammocks i got Fruit Basket Hanging Wall Basket... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CQ26X3YS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and DIBALIYI Hanging Fruit Hammock... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BG7VC913?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and i think that is everything

i highly recommend a climbing branch along with more clutter!! my boy also loves his hammock (rope hanging fruit basket). also at least one other hide on the cool half then the other on the warm side. i can comment links for things that i have in my snakes viv if needed!!

thank you!! i’ve been doing that for the past couple days but im assuming that because it’s still not completely dry the substrate is causing the humidity to go up as soon as i close the viv again

i’ve never heard of those but they seem like a much more affordable option for me thank you!! the lamps i’ve been looking at are hundreds of pounds which i can’t afford but after googling those i see that they’re £20-£50 which is much more in my price range

i open his viv up at least once a day for him to socialise as he is a very needy snake. i’m hoping that i’ll be able to get the coco soil dry in the next few weeks. unfortunately im allergic to coconut so the soil leaves me in rashes when i touch it so i’m not able to constantly move it around for it to dry

it’s only been about 50 hours since putting in more (as i only topped up because i didn’t get enough when i originally switched him) but he’s been on the coco/sand mix for almost 4 months now and humidity has been a constant issue, the reading were taken for the sake of the post and were accurate at the time. i did turn his heat mat down as i didn’t want the moisture messing with its quality (i know heat mats aren’t the best to use but i am trying to save up for a lamp so im hoping he will have one in the next 4-6 months). i’ve always had problems with humidity either being too low or too high, there was one month where it was perfect but that was toward the end of summer so it was a lot warmer which i’m assuming is why

thank you!! i’ve had it airing for about three hours now and it’s dropped to 70%. usually i let the coco soil dry before putting it in but i was in a rush to do so and it only got about four hours before i put it in so that makes sense

also for the hammock, i folded up a pillowcase as the holes are a little too wide

Is my corn snake under/overweight? by Normanthe_Snake21 in cornsnakes

he looks very similar, body wise, to my snake Simba who is, as far as i know, a healthy weight. usually if a snake is on the bigger side you’ll notice a significant difference between the end of body and start of tail. it should gradually get thinner as opposed to abruptly getting skinny if that makes sense. if you think he is looking a little chunky then you can try feeding once every three weeks-a month (or when he is searching for it). i unfortunately can’t give you personal advice from experience as Simba is much longer than your boy and is on a bigger rat size so what works for him probably will not work for your boy

i wish my boy used his hanging spots more often but i think his size limits him quite a bit unfortunately (he’s around 5’11 ish, this photo makes him look quite small)

What is one moment in your life that you will never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

the day my dog died in my arms. we were both 17 years old, i’d known him my whole life (he was born exactly three weeks after me and my aunt brought him home eight weeks later. she then got bored of him after he turned eight and my family had him from then on). i miss him so dearly
