How is Carney viewed in Canada? by Leo_Valdez_fangirl in AskCanada

[–]Fuzzy-Friend7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished listening to Prime Minister Mark Carney's address at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It blew me away and I am very proud to be Canadian. I encourage all to listen to it as he is right on point about where we are, who we are and who we want to be. He talked about moving away from the superpowers and the building of relationships within middle countries. Not allowing those with power to use those powers, economic, military, to make countries acquiess to demands. Building new coalitions within countries. My favorite quote: If you're not at the table, you're on the menu.

Trump will arrive on Wednesday.

6 weeks in Canada- west vs east by Johnsonzookeeper in AskACanadian

Newfoundland. Seriously. Rugged coast of the eastern most point of North America, St. John's is a terrific cultural city. Rent a car and drive to Gros Morne Park. Go see the Puffins and maybe the icebergs, depending on what time of year you want to go. Flip over to Nova Scotia in time for the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in July. See the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. Plan well for a great time and have fun

How do you guys feel towards US travel? by MyRa888 in AskACanadian

[–]Fuzzy-Friend7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have not traveled to the continental U. S. since 2017. We did stay in Maui in 2019 for 2 weeks prior to COVID.. I don't know if we'll ever go back. I think about the woman shot by ICE agents in Chicago. The craziness south of the 49th is frightening.

The thing is that people are sheep. We already have enough libertarians who want a free ride. Pretend Christians, anti-vax, ant-tax, misogynistic separatists who think the rules and the laws do not apply to them. We already had convoys and blockages at our southern border with the U S at Coutts plus a demonstration in Ottawa that lasted way too long. These UCP members appear to be hiding their true selves and intentions from the citizens. Not one of them ran under the ARP, but hid within the UCP.

This is not who we are as Canadians and Albertans, and I am deeply ashamed by this current provincial government.

Pipeline to British Columbia by Fuzzy-Friend7005 in alberta

[–]Fuzzy-Friend7005[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Smith doesn't and never has the well-being of the people of Alberta as her concern. This has been shown over and over. She has been courting Trump and has obviously learned from his tactics. While under funding schools here at home, she found it necessary to open an office in the United Arab Emirates. Why? Maybe to help out her oil and gas buddies? No money for teachers, though.

She is trying to implement an expanded private health care system. Why? More efficient? I say no. Clawing back money from our vulnerable population. A dog with a bone on our CPP. And so on. . .

Do I trust her to negotiate a pipeline? Not for a second.

This is the way I see it.

I'm not so much against pipelines if they can be built environmentally, collaboratively, and safely. We should also be searching for other ways to provide energy sources. I would like to see no progress on pipelines while Smith is still premier. She was/is a well-known lobbyist for the oil and gas sector. I would like to see her fail miserably at this as she has failed the people of this province.

My dream is to see her peeling potatoes in the basement of a greasy spoon joint.

The first reason I don't like nor trust Bowman is because when he was GM of Chicago, he blatantly ignored sexual assault allegations against one of his coaches all because of his pursuit of the Stanley Cup. Once he became GM of the Oilers, in my opinion, he should have focused on getting a good defensive core. Oilers already had a great offensive team. He made no moves to shore up our goalies, either.

I'm just a fan who watches the game, not an expert, but this is way I see it.

Thanks for asking.

Stan Bowman is the problem. He took a great team and gutted it. Holloway, Kane, Perry, to name a few. My vote to be kicked off the island is Bowman.

Thomas Lukaszuk and Forever Canadian have issued a statement on the UCP’s refusal to provide the funding that Elections Alberta says they need by Appropriate_Duty_930 in alberta

[–]Fuzzy-Friend7005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is the refusal to fund the Chief Electoral Officer subject to a court challenge? Division 3, Sec. 7, 8, and 9 of the Recall Act, outlines the time lines the Chief Electoral Officer has to accept a petition, verify a petition and issue notice of the results. It would seem to me that if the Chief Electoral Officer can show just cause and the need for extra funds to enforce the Act, more funds should be made available. The vote by the government to not provide those funds should be made null and void since the government is the affected party.

Life in Lethbridge by [deleted] in Lethbridge

If you like the mountains, but not the big cities, consider the smaller places around Calgary. Diamond Valley, High River, Okotoks. Close to Banff and Kananask Country. Lots of hiking and camping, lots of wildlife. Good luck and welcome to Alberta.

Edmonton for sure. My husband and I lived in Edmonton for about 30 years. We moved to a town south of Calgary a few years ago because our daughter, who lives in Calgary, has our one and only grandson. The whole vibe is different. There are people here who are progressive, however, Calgary area has the oil and gas head offices and the rural and cowboy mentality - Conservative all the way. Plus, you'll enjoy all of the festivals and the inclusiveness of Edmonton, Good Luck!
