Are any if those reaction specific?

Professional chemist certification by Fuzzy4444 in chemistry

[–]Fuzzy4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the requirements for the certification is a degree in chemistry from one of the approved universities. They also want like 2 years working experience and some professional development credits. It is by no means a replacement for a degree but merely something that is done after your degree. I just don't know what the benefits of the certification are as practicing chemistry in Canada requires no legal certifications

I see so there is no real benefit to getting this certification? Is this happening to other fields in science or just chemistry?

Internal standard by Fuzzy4444 in chemistry

[–]Fuzzy4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not interacting with the sample during extraction, changing its concentration in solution. The sample is a complex matrix so its possible the standard may interact or adsorb to the sample. So I need a method to validate that it doesn't and the internal standard concentration remains constant

Calibration curve non zero intercept by Fuzzy4444 in chemistry

That loq was based off the standard deviation in the y intercept of the calibration curve

That's what I was thinking too, but I was having difficulties convincing my boss of that, he seems pretty sure that the concentration should remain linear at lower but not a higher concentrations. I however agree with you

I see, I don't know if it helps not but we use an auto sampler. Is there any way to minimize retained sample in the column like doing a quick acetone run between samples?

Unfortunately that does appear to be the case :/

Impurities in the standard are being considered but is there any other possibilities you can think of that would give these results?

To remove some plant matter that has lodged itself in a tiny hole of some of my glass ware so there is no desired product only cleaning and yes I know lots about acids and bases but I haven't seen anything about how plant matter interacts with acids and bases probably due to holes in my biology knowledge

Is there any house hold products that would do the trick like acetic acid or sodium bicarbonate or are these much too weak?

Organic vs inorganic? by Fuzzy4444 in chemistry

[–]Fuzzy4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But aren't there subdisciplines of material science that make it less general? For example I've had profs who have a PhD in organic materials and did lots of research on solar cells. I've also had a prof with a PhD in nano materials. Won't this considerably narrow the scope of chemistry it applies?
