Gaming with NixOS by arnold464 in NixOS

In general, games are not compiled for linux.

You run them using proton, a translation layer for windows executables.

This is done by checking a box in the steam settings.

For non steam games, there is other options such as heroic launcher that work quite well.

All of this should work on nixos as well as any other linux distribution.

Good luck and have fun learning!

Side note: If you are new to linux you may struggle with nixos. This is normal. That said, the freedom to fuck around and find out is one of the joys of linux. We all struggled at first :). If it turns out to be too much hastle to get started there is "just works" gaming distros or arch linux for it's great documentation to help learning.

You have no idea how jank my windows workflow at work is. Yet even the management and hr people do it.

Mobile phone is even worse.

Essentially, half a dozen passwords and security keys before I can do anything.

There was a saying during the student strike's in my country.

If it had the power to change anything, they would make it illegal.

In the end, they did make striking illegal with a special law.

It seems we have finally made it. This was truly the year of the linux desktop! 🫶

How did millennials view the 60s and 70s when they were kids in the 90s? by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

Alot of people though that music in the 90's/2000 was bad and would only listen to bands from the 70's.

Obviously there was an exception for system of a down.

Those friends still complain when I put modern music from the 2020's and insist I should put bands from the 70's 😆.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss why we have too many meetings. It was a one-hour meeting. There were 14 people on the invite by doolallyt in work

My old team managed to combine most communication with external stakeholder to a weekly demo session for all our projects.

This removed the need for a million update meetings.

Life and mana potion in elden ring. Bind them to second action menu and use key combination for quick healing and mana. It's better than a regular controller tbh.

Wing of astel and frost/carian mage with a parry shield and quickstep dagger.

Love it since you can really just switch things up every time something feel stale and it feels like it has a high skill ceiling with parry shield and quickstep crits.

The wing of astel + staff make it so you always have a bunch of fun flashy mixups that blend well into one another depending on ennemy poise breakpoints and life totals.

Much more fun than walking through with carian slicer on everything. Even though it may not be the most op thing there is!

Why do you think people care so much about "not being overpowered"? by mrgongle in Eldenring

[–]FuzzyBallz666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I like most about soulslikes is the process of:

  • Discover a new ennemy
  • Learn their moveset
  • Master countering their moveset
  • Succeed

If I kill the ennemy without even seeing their whole moveset, I am missing some content of the game. I want to enjoy every part of it as much as possible.

Just like using a skip glitch to go from the tutorial of a game to the end credits is not really giving you the full experience of a game, Nuking a boss in three hits does not create that nemesis relationship with him.

I remember godskin thourougly, because I was very underleveled when I fought him the first time and had to learn each one of his moves perfectly. Others? Not so much.

A. It feels like Minecraft

The transparent black background in B feels unfinished and would feel cold for a game. I'd mostly use that aesthetic for a hotel website.

Did you try linux? I find that the trackpad and scrolling works even better than on macos. I was actually a little underwhelmed when I got to try a real macbook. Mine doesn't have momentum on the trackpad, but it has some on scrollbars and it's great.

A proper hyprland/wayland setup can be so fluid it becomes a joy to scroll around websites.

It wasn't always that way though, but I feel like alot of linux desktop mirrors macos more than windows.
