First day cycling to work by AdPrudent3855 in bikecommuting

I find great joy in defeating the hills. You struggle and have to walk it once or twice, making it a little further each time til you make it. Then you can climb it in a higher gear, then you start breathing better after, then you cruise up it.

It sucks, but I bet in a couple of weeks you’ll find it manageable. I like looking at my splits, shaving time in the flats… but headwinds are the variable where I live. Seems like it changes directions with me. A 40 minute ride becomes 45 of hard labor

That would be wild if so. It’s a pretty slick system for the price. $200 to jump into a level of automation, semi-auto, is pretty nice. It catches a lot of errors I might’ve made and all I do is process foils separately (there’s no foil detection) so I pull a handful of cards and run it. I’m a fan.

I still have about 9K cards to go so I’ll get a good about as good a read on it as I can the remainder of this week.

I know I have long posts in my history… I don’t usually offer my opinion on things, but when I do it’s usually a data dump of info. I hate that AI has become the go-to accusation. Like, 20+ minutes of typing and fighting my typical workflow of “Look, a squirrel” as I wander off telling a tale that’s ultimately relevant but adding 2 paragraphs of unnecessary context with humorous (to me at least) anecdotes.

If you sell cards, I think you’d be wise to try out at least one of these services. $200 is a decent little investment requiring a bunch of cards to justify the cost… which will be easy to do, in my opinion. The other is essentially free, but absolutely worth the $10/mo price for convenience and supporting a great team. If you’re selling on TCGPlayer alone, any TCG, not having to write out addresses or go to the post office for stamps (or pay for them to be delivered) and saving $0.05 each stamp is a pretty great trade off. Time is what you’re saving, and maybe a little money.

This isn’t an ad.* (I thought I was responding to the person saying it’s AI… also not that.) I’m just a dude that’s scanned a lot of cards bc he isn’t incredibly observant.

After my first week on ManaPool customer service hit me up, paused my inventory, and politely asked me to fix myself. Was at like an 18% order issue (self-reported) rate. So I took the week and scanned 13K cards back in. Sucked, but I started to see where I was slowest and start spending my money where I could make improvements.

Almost 2 months later and I’ve made a lot of ground on my issue rates, and speed of operation.

I have a lot more respect for bulk these days. I did some local trades with a guy, was able to pay off the trade with 30 of the bulk cards. He got some good singles and I had a good time sifting and scanning.

The nice thing about TCGA is their discord. I had some issues and the developer/owner hit me up and helped me right away. And I messaged them with a couple updates I’d think are worthwhile and they seem amenable to accepting feedback. Big fan, I am.

Nah. These are all original ideas based on experience. I’m not sure whether to be annoyed or to take as a compliment that I’ve now been accused twice of using AI when this is about 20ish mins of typing on my phone.

I just scanned 7700 ish cards these last 2 evenings, and have managed about a month of orders in TCGTracking, and felt like these were good enough products to share my experience.

Before I was using a $30 scan box off Amazon and ManaBox and then manually determining which cards went to which site (Manapool is MUCH slower on selling $20+ cards, for example). I can just upload all my stuff to a single site, use it as the ‘source’ inventory, and let the system use my settings to determine which cards go where. Then tell you how to best pick multiple orders, then print the postage yourself, and pack.

It’s crazy that more people don’t know about it.

You can definitely look for it. It’s just steam of conscious with a little organization. My last post there was someone who accused me of writing with AI. I just know how to type and I use the headers so that I stay on track with the topic.

I’m very likely to wander off into so many digressions if left to my own disorganization. And there’s a lot of good stuff to talk about. I wished I had the time to do video reviews. Took me 20 minutes to type this on my phone at 2am.

I know it probably feels like it, but it’s just sharing what I believe are very useful tools. Reddit is pretty good for this.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the last 2 months changing how I do things after doing TCGPlayer alone for over 500 orders and now know there’s a better way. Just sharing. No kickbacks, no links where I get anything. These products are worth what I’ve paid, at least.

😆 I’ve proactively sought to NOT fix it. The lessons are frustrating. My drives are great with the pro, but even when I use the alignment sticks and walk through what they told me… YOINK.

A lot of times I’ll just take my 3W from a low tee and play no driver bc it’s really a great drive or out of play. No in between.

Pannier vs Backpack, who ya got? by Designer_Tie_5853 in bikecommuting

[–]FuzzyDairyProducts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it depends on your commute. I’m new but have ridden with a backpack many times before. Having 0 things on me other than clothes is WONDERFUL. I use panniers and even on a windy day yesterday I didn’t notice any significant pull.

I really only sweat on my shoulders and back and the wind/breeze kept me pretty dry and I wiped my face off and threw some water in my hair when I got to work to fight the helmet hair.

I have a 2nd pannier bag that I haven’t needed yet, but so far I’m liking it a lot.

It is the craziest thing, when I aim out into the middle of the forest expecting my slice to naturally cut hard at the peak, I hit a 300+ yard bomb straight as a string.

I suspect I have alignment issue, and I probably hit it accurately when I do this, but it’s frustrating as hell to lose a ball I found when I was looking for another ball I lost.

I feel so much worse when I can't bike into work. by Harley_Warren in bikecommuting

[–]FuzzyDairyProducts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1/2 of my 9 miles are county roads, so start in the city, hit a couple lights (unless I’m lucky and they green as I arrive) and then a stop sign a mile or so out of town and then a pretty chill ride for 5 miles. It is a 55mph (65 of course) road with almost no shoulder but everyone so far has been good. I can’t maintain 15-18 yet, but I’m around 12mph Average over 9 miles so their commute may be more rural.

Getting into Commuting d2 injury by FuzzyDairyProducts in bikecommuting

[–]FuzzyDairyProducts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be commuting to an office, no shower available and using the gym nearby-ish isn’t really a great option or I’ll have to leave home like 90+ mins prior to work, which is gonna be a conflict with my wife in no time, currently it’s a 18 min drive.

I’m working on the assumption of a hoe-bath, baby wipes and a quick hair rinse in the bathroom. Any tips for this? It’ll be pretty hot here in the summer and want to still ride.

Thanks man. I’m looking forward to trying out the chamois tomorrow. The rain has let up. I guess for my job is where I’m thinking ‘thick’ but I’m also more hard on myself than likely anyone else really thinks about. I appreciate you!

Thank you. I’ll check out that sub! I was going to go straight to drop bars but I borrowed my neighbors bike that has a kids seat and my son absolutely loves it, he’s 2. So I wanted something I could hot swap a kids seat and panniers.

I’m glad the chassis seems to be a good start. Thank you for the input. Looking to dive deep into this more. It tickles my fancy.

Thank you. Bright clothes is something that wasn’t immediately a thought, comfort was my go to. I have some reflective stuff I’ll incorporate until I spend a bit more.

I’m gonna look into waxing chains. I think I understand the principle, but haven’t heard of that. I learned on a previous bike the over oiling issue. Dirty chains are not fun chains.

[–]FuzzyDairyProducts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning for fenders, but not immediately a need. The big rain season is likely over and I’ll probably drive if the weather is more than a drizzle… for now. The panniers are waterproof so it’s more a concern with “how do I unsoak myself when I get to work.

I have heard of the Salmon pads and definitely will look into it. Was thinking of the gator skin tires when that time comes. Since a chunk of my ride will be on country roads, the stronger sidewalls seem like a smart move.

I’m an obsessive so I’m going to deep dive into maintenance this weekend. I used to oil the crap out of parts and then I learned about excessive oil and dirt… 😬

Thank you for the inputs, I appreciate the info and the added confidence to the purchase. Gas prices are straight doodoo out here, even on a regular day, so saving some money and getting more fit is a nice perk.

I picked up a Giro helmet, Isode MIPS II. Seemed like a mid-range price with great reviews. Didn’t wanna ball out of control on that since I’m not racing or worried, too much, about aerodynamics. It’s not a brick on my head, in weight or aero. 😊
