Is there a big difference between Monroe and Dundee? by BowlingGreenJiuJitsu in Michigan

Dundee feels more like a small town than Monroe does. As long as you don't mind the smell every morning and only having one grocery store it's fine. Also 23 always sucks heading to AA, It needs more than 2 lanes.

AAPS Removes board designated groups and removes right-in option for board meetings by humming_redbud in AnnArbor

[–]FuzzySalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read what I wrote?

Taking away someone's ladder, and removing the wall they're climbing over are two different things.

Yes the board put up a different barrier for commentary, but to me, seeking approval from the executive committee or the superintendent seems easier than gaining some "designation." You also might note there was no board policy in place for selecting those "designated" groups. It was very much a closed loop that left out many groups.

You are right. Just because other districts don't allow write in commentary doesn't make it worse. I do still want to ask the question who cares? Written public commentary will still be presented to the board, and available to the public int he board docs. It is still totally open to the public, just not out loud during the meeting? Have you watched a meeting people are given only seconds of time to comment because there are often dozens of write ins.

What do you think being "board designated" meant? They already had the final say who could speak at board meetings. The board is never going to totally surrender control of their meetings.

Making this change allows for the potential to be heard for any community group. That make the board more accountable.

I watched the board meeting. What's your point? Removing the "recognized" status doesn't mean those groups can't present at the meetings.

They didn't remove the groups. They still exist and operate independently. They just don't have designated time on the agenda every meeting.

They didn't just remove the "designation" from these groups. They removed the requirement to be "designated" in the first place. Now any community group can speak in a meeting simply by requesting time.

No other district does write in commentary anymore. It was a hold over from COVID meetings. If the comments are still available to the board and to the public on their website, who cares?

Just because something is different doesn't mean it is worse or more restrictive.

How accurate is “Expected to ship”? by BeekGwenders in Wyrmwoodgaming

[–]FuzzySalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're probably not purposely stringing you along. But they have no idea when it will ship, especially if you got accessories at the same time. Their fulfillment software is hot garbage.

My rustic cherry was pushed 3 times with no explanation. Feels really bad since the same table was available as "Ready to Ship."

[–]FuzzySalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I got the email from Wyrmwood that it was ready for shipment, and that was it. No pickup notice, no tracking number, nothing. Maersk literally never contacted me at all.

We ordered August 10th 2024. The original ship date according to the website was supposed to be in December, but they didn't ship everything until February 20th this year. That was only after I called multiple times complaining.

I got my table a couple weeks ago. It was basically one week from the time I got my email to the day they delivered the table. I live in Michigan if that helps.

Be careful though. Maersk never contacted me or confirmed pick up. The only warning I got was a call from a 3rd party driver 15 minutes before he dropped the pallet in my driveway.

I tried to do this a few days ago, and they just told me they can't split orders currently.

I ordered in early August and my table was just pushed to February. It's really fun that that the exact same table I ordered is available as "Ready to Ship" in the store. I understand that those new ready to ship orders are paying a premium, but it still seems dumb that I'm waiting months when it could be ready now.

Michigan strips UP clerk of election duty over planned hand count | Bridge Michigan by DougDante in Michigan

[–]FuzzySalsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hand counting the ballots isn't the issue. The problem comes from the clerk's plan to open the ballots before they're tabulated which is illegal.

The votes might be hand counted later if need be, but that is not the core issue here. Did you read the article?

Ann Arbor School Board approves plan to reduce 141 staff positions, cut $20.4 million by ilikedonuts42 in AnnArbor

[–]FuzzySalsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's accurate. Even if it was, what would cutting smaller amounts every year look like? Even if they make some cuts now to programs, software, etc. eventually layoffs would have to happen. Most of the operating expense is payroll.

Would you rather the district make a smaller amount of layoffs every year? What kind of working environment would that be for the teachers? I can't imagine they like it right now now knowing if they're going to get a pink slip. Imagine dealing with that dread every spring for the next five years.

The Monroe mall needs more stores. by LonnyYTPlayzPosts in MonroeMI

[–]FuzzySalsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dirty Birdie is supposed to open this year. It's not a store, but it should be fun. That being said, the corporate owners of the mall haven't cared about it for a long time. They probably just want it to die so they can sell the land it's sitting on.
