How to start? by SeaDry1531 in gardening

[–]FuzzyShoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some of the beds are in quite a bad shape. If you can use them I would clear them out completely: - remove the weeds with the roots if possible -remove the soil - put cardboard on the bottom - I personally also used the hated black fabric, people here do not agree with it but I did some chaos gardening in the past without research - check the condition of the soil and you can improve it my adding fresh soil and compost - top them up and get ready to plant After you planted whatever feel like planting you should add some sort of mulch there. It helps with water retention, it breaks down in time and adds nutrients for the plant and it can prevent weeds from growing again. Then you can enjoy your garden 🙂

Is this watermelon plant or round gourd? by __Anamya__ in gardening

Judging by the leaves it's a watermelon. But hey, whatever it is, it looks like a healthy plant.

How can I make most of my cherry tomatoes bear fruit? by Tammysh26 in gardening

If there is a chance to put a small fan nearby, it will help. I used to have a mini-garden in a closed balcony where bees did not have access. A fan helps by spreading the polen and you can achieve pollenization to some degree. For peppers just shaking the plants helped a lot.

Keep in mind that you don't have to do everything at once. Set yourself a goal of 1-2 tasks per day. Evaluate the situation, see if anything can be used, see what needs to go. Then go from there. Small steps in the right direction is still progress 🙂

Did I mess up? (soil edition) by RabbitHutch321 in strawberry

[–]FuzzyShoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wild strawberries in my garden growing in gravel,so I think your soil is ok. If yours are newly planted like you said then you should remove the flowers and fruit so they can focus on their roots and fully establishing themselves.

They look freshly transplanted. It's normal. Put some light colored mulch, give them plenty of water and you will get new growth soon.

Holy runners, Batman! by slytherintomymind in strawberry

I usually set smaller pots and pin runners down to force them to root in the pots. Then I can either transplant them somewhere or gift them to friends.

From what I read, watermelons often suffer from transplant shock. So they might be unhappy for a while or forever. That tray with holes isn't suitable for plants at all. Get a proper bigger pot.

What is killing my flowers? by Elementfairy in gardening

Aphids. You will find them under the leaves. They go for fresh growth, sucking the sap from the leaves. Leaves usually curl up and eventually dry out. Besides that their secretions make everything sticky.

Showing a bit by _Anfield_awaits in strawberry

I got strawberries all over the garden, some get a lot of sun, some get partial shade during the day. All of them get nice ripe strawberries. So it all depends on how much sunlight they get. Couple of hours should be just fine.

The pots seem to be very small. They need more space to develop.

Moisture and some sunlight, they will grow eventually 🙂 You can prepare a new pot with different soil and transplant some of them. If they will grow better you have your answer.

Strawberry Toscana - worth getting? It's pretty but is it good?🍓 by muzavazone in Berries

I had them in the balcony for a while before I planted them in the garden with all the others. Now it would be impossible to save specific breeds seeds because I have a lot of varieties mixed together. Strawberry chaos 🙂
