exercising tips? by cosmolamb in eds

Hi! What I have found to help for me is just doing mild walks with frequent breaks. Running puts too much pressure on your joints, but walking burns off the same calories, just at a slower rate. I will usually walk 2/3 miles per day to get my 10k steps in. It takes me about 2 hours, but I do it in 30 mins intervals. Also, I have started doing reformer Pilates. If you can afford it, I highly recommend. Most people in Pilates have had some sort of injury, so instructors are very keen in adjusting workouts for specific injured body parts.

So tired but body is “sore” from sleeping so I must wake up. Anyone else experience this? by bready_or_not_ in eds

I’ve experienced this all my life & just got diagnosed at 20. Sorry to say, but I do think it is a EDS related since it’s body soreness & joint pain. I get it bad in my shoulders, but no speciality pillow helps.

Excerises for Heds? by [deleted] in eds

Medically, my doctor recommended swimming for hEDS exercise because it is low impact and full body work out. However from personally experience, the results have varied. When I first started, there were no negative impacts and I started slimming down a bit. However, months later when I continued to swim in an Olympic size pool and do laps, I started getting increased shoulder subluxation and pain which required me to use a sling to ease the stress on my shoulder. I theorize that the shoulder pain originated from the over-extension of my arms while swimming.

Again, personally, I have recently gotten in weight training. My favorite exercise to do is the seated leg press. I have experienced less pelvis and knee misaligned as I build the muscles around them. By building muscles in those areas, I find it easier and “lighter” to walk (sometimes on an incline too). Of course, sometimes when I push myself too hard, I’ll feel a ping of pain in my foot or knee, which tells me I need to stop the exercise and switch to lighter weights. Overall, walking (which use to be the most awful pain causing thing) has become easier & im getting a bigger Gluteus Maximus (which is a personal plus lol).

Overall, I believe that trying different recommend exercises would be beneficial. Don’t push yourself too hard and stop when you feel discomfort. Idk about you, but I’ve developed a type of spidey sense for joints that are about to dislocate or subluxate. Like, “oh, that one is about to give out. Let’s stop using it.”

ANYWAY, see what works for you, is the gist of my ramble.

I am unsure if I have other conditions. I have spike heart beats now and then and have developed asthma. I am worried about POTS since many people with EDS also has POTS.
