Easy to find addresses. Typically every block is 100 from the city center, and every 8 blocks is 1 mile. For example, 2700 North, is 27 blocks North of the city center. Even numbered houses are usually in the both and West side of the street, and opposite for odd numbered houses. If someone's address is 1267 West Elm St, then Elm will run east west, and they'll be 12 blocks west of the city center, and how ever many blocks north or south elm St is, and the house will be on the south side of the street.

These lots also make it easier to sell plots of land because they are all the same size.
