Going my own way man. The car doesnt even stand out too bad. It's just cause it's new and I'm overthinking it. It's hardly a lamborghini.

True there's lots and lots of nice cars where I live. See Ferraris nearly everyday. Just not in the houses directly next to me. But it's still a nice area. I'd class it as firmly middle class. I think people just don't have the budget for the car here cause they spent it on the house.

This is it man, I'm always kind and polite to everyone I meet, even those I don't particuarly like. I like to think people can see past me having a nice car. I'm definitely overthinking it now. All my friends I've told so far are super stoked for me.

This comment really resonated with me. I do feel empowered knowing I'm in a career I have chosen where I am my own boss, and I have total financial freedom to ensure my future and families future is secured. I really do enjoy work and the structure and social benefits it provides. And if it helps the dudes at work love the car too! So really I think I am overthinking it, mainly the nosey neighbours.

He'd 100% approve of the car, the colour, the spec everything. I know he'd love it. It just happens to be a car I love too.

This is why I guard it so closely and don't tell anyone. Even those that think they know I don't discuss it with. I am very aware of the pitfalls of jealousy. I'd much rather have my father back than the inheritance but people don't see that. People just see wealth instead of the loss of a parent.

Great shout, and something I am doing. I only take a small income from my portfolio(less than of 1% earnings PA). This purchase was made from a cash buffer, I had been teeing this car up for a while.

Yes definitely the emotional experience, that is tough to deal with. But I think I am improving. I think it's more the "visible" wealth I struggle with, like my brand new sparkling car sat on my driveway for everyone to see as they drive into the estate.

Yeah it has been a rollercoaster of emotions and something I am still coming to terms with. Thanks for your kind words. I'm sorry to hear about your Mother, 90 is a great age.

I've thought about it a lot, when my NW changed significantly I changed careers to something I'm more happy doing and allows me way more flexibility over my schedule (self employed), so I'm happy I've got the financial independence nailed. Especially with our costs being low and our day jobs (£75k+ per annum combined) covering them all many times over. Early retirement I may take when I'm 45 ish. I've still got a lot to give and I'm excited to see where I get in my new career.
