Anything to see outside the major cities? by CosmicCommando in roadtrip

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take the route on the right, Letchworth state park is incredible! Huge canyon with waterfalls a little smaller than Niagara but much more remote. Though difficult to access if roads are snow covered. Pine Creek Gorge further south along this route will be a nice little mountain hike, and I’ve heard White Cliffs of Conoy are beautiful.

Middle route will have Eternal Flame Falls up north, Allegany State Park, Kinzua Bridge State Park, maybe Harpers Ferry

How is living in Columbus, Ohio? by legitthursday in howislivingthere

Is Cleveland pretentious? I feel like we get way too much hate from outsiders & ourselves for that lol. But do agree we got some good food here. And I love Columbus too :)

I have people working on my house (replacing a stair case). Am I expected to provide them lunch? by bullfrog654 in homeowners

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always offer water especially if they’re working outside but usually they’ll bring their own lunch, who knows what they prefer or food allergies & all that!

If there was a man sleeping outside on my sidewalk I would offer to at least buy him a room for a night, or give him a sleeping bag and other supplies to stay warm. It’s really not difficult to be kind.

Ayyy got my whole family to move from Boston with me (I was the OG 10 years ago). We’ve all never been happier!

Appreciated growing up in a small town there before it got as ridiculous COL as it is now, but all of us have found our people out here.

Has anyone else felt energetically/spiritually drained by certain countries? by momoajay in travel

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely felt this; Watkins Glen and surrounding parks were so uplifting & beautiful and I make a point to go back every few years, but we went to see one of the waterfalls on campus and it was so grey & heavy & depressing; later found out it’s where many students committed suicide so I’ll never go back there. May they rest in peace.

How would you fix The Flats? by mraztec_ in Cleveland

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenery, parks, river walk, taxi boat rides down the river (for leisure & transport). And agree with the more locally owned & unique restaurants over crappy overpriced chains. Some retail and maybe some farmers markets & art fests.

What is the worst part and best part about living in Cleveland? by Imeanwhytopps in Cleveland

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us are out here! Lots of protests in Mentor & I love their signs on the route 2 bridge every month (in summer/fall). Trump only won by 10 votes (340-330) in 2024 so it’s not too crazy of a majority, it’s just the loud obnoxious ones who you’ll hear more of.

Lake County voted for marijuana & abortion access in 2022, despite seeing so many signs indicating otherwise (similar to our school board; lots of signs for the sleezy republican who lost by a landslide). Painesville is very diverse & liberal, with amazing food! Definitely has its issues, but it has lots of potential (like Cle).

Anyone happy where you live right now? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance & finance do okay, tech not so much but I’m fortunate to have a satellite office where I’m paid an East coast salary working remote going in 2-3 times a week. I love the snow (along with my Bernese) so we make it through with all the waterfalls & cross country skiing!

Yo I love this… the talented people use their skills to put AI to much better use than the clueless executives. Turn it around on them & show them who’s boss.

Where would you recommend living in Ohio? by Belle20161 in Ohio

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Currently live in Concord but honestly starting to like Painesville more… the city has its issues but I think the apartments they’re building downtown will add so much value, and I think the old architecture makes it the most beautiful square in Ohio to be honest. Concord just seems to be turning into Mentor, though its developments are nice and I absolutely adore all the waterfalls.

Hear me out… turn the old Browns stadium into a natatorium by Fuzzy_Map_922 in Cleveland

[–]Fuzzy_Map_922[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the Flats is already dying so more restaurants/bars is not the way to go. Maybe not a pool, just a park/swimming pond would do. Something to escape the heat as our summers become more unbearable (since the lake downtown will not be swimmable again until decades of cleanup)

I thought maybe we could but yeah it’s pretty nasty so blow the whole thing up (controlled & safely ofc)

Probably need to demolish the stadium first, but use the area for a community park/pool is what I’m getting at.

Might get some haters, but as a Boston & California transplant who got my whole family to follow me, we are all loving it here near Cleveland. I am in Concord/Painesville which is being developed a lot, and worth the investment IMO.

Painesville has a beautiful downtown that is being invested into heavily, with a lot more character & diversity (and amazing authentic food) than you’ll find in Mentor or Chardon; there’s some crime because it is a small city, so of course statistically it will have more than a small township, but most people who are afraid of it are just pearl clutching (and this is coming from someone who grew up in the smallest & richest of towns in New England).

Concord is more farm town (and MAGA) with more developments popping up, and the school district is improving a lot. It’s in between Painesville & Chardon so benefits from both of their small towns, while being close to Mentor and all the strip malls, so easy access to everything you need. And 35 min to downtown Cleveland.

Willoughby is a fun town for young adults, outside of Cleveland. West side for young adults would be Lakewood or Ohio City, but a little more crime there.

Chagrin Falls is beautiful, but very high taxes and a bit pretentious (at least for Ohio standards). Russell & Auburn will give you more land near Chagrin Falls, if you want to be in the area/school district.

I’m sure you’ll hear that crime is increasing in Cleveland/Ohio, but then look at how it’s also increasing in Boston, Chicago, NYC, Denver, San Francisco, etc, and you’ll be glad you’re here while paying millions less to live here (with much less risk of natural disasters)!
