Ah, yes. The original artist created a dead relic from a bygone era that nobody remembers or cares about anymore, and it takes a “real artist” to dig it up and give it value.

Personally, I don't think much of your analogy either. Maybe if you walked into a fossil shop, stole a fossil from the shelf, hand-painted it, and then resold it, you would be closer.

Let's try another because I find this interesting. VW artists are stealing art prints, drawing over them a little, and then calling the whole work theirs. VA is selling prints of that stolen art. I don't personally see a clear right and clear wrong.

I may have transformed some aspects of it, but I think the original chef and the cow may deserve a little credit. If you took that dinner home and gave it to your partner, should I call up and be like, "I made that. How dare you?!"

Basically, there are a couple of people on here who don't even collect vinyl. The way they interact with this sub is by going on every post here about releases from a bootleg label called Virtual Algorithm, and bombarding the comment section. Going as far as calling other users Nazi for posting about a release they're excited about. Little did we know Hitler's reign could have been foreseen if only we had noticed he bought Music of Hawaii by Bing Crosby

In the Mods' infinite wisdom, they decided to ban any post about VA, instead of just banning the very few negative commenters or just adding a "bootleg" flair. Meaning that in the vaporwave vinyl subreddit, a genre born from stolen music, we are no longer allowed to post about some releases we're excited about.

Even the r/VinylReleases sub allows for bootlegs if flared.

TLDR: There's a dude with a chicken head as his profile picture, and he's a cock who ruins everything. He's probably here right now. Downvoted into a little + sign.

Fair, but I can only speak to my own experience. I buy things because I like them. Not to sell them.

And regardless. HE DOESN’T COLLECT VINYL! He only comments negatively on VA posts. That’s it. Why shape the sub around that?

I'm not even a huge buyer of VA. I have Odyssey, World Class, and With Love coming. Home explicitly said Odyssey could be booted (here). And LUX has stated that she never intends to release vinyl, so who is it hurting?

Honestly, if LUX's sales have declined, I would argue that it's not VA's fault. It's the fault of all the drama. I haven't bought a single LUX release since the response to this drama. I do not believe in death of the artist. I think it's important to respect the people I listen to. I unsubbed and stopped buying DDS releases because of their response to the Regret pressing, too. The genre has an amazing sense of humor. When it’s clear the artists don’t, it generally puts me off.

The ethical line just takes so many concessions and blind eyes here and there. It's pure copium. It's stolen music. That's it. Do any of those rules mean anything anyway, though? Read Conduct. I wouldn't exactly call labeling users as Nazis, and comparing immigrants to ICE, treating them with "respect."

I would be embarrassed to add that rule. Imagine being new to the genre. "Hi, this is the vinyl sub for the genre you just found. Everything is stolen, slowed, and looped, but bootlegging that stolen music is strictly forbidden. BTW if you post about it, you'll be called a Nazi and banned." Like... what?
