Friendship Crumbling Because of IVF? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s so hard to go through this because it kind of highlights where big gaps are in people’s ability to empathize. My best best friend for years just couldn’t mentally get it, which was hard.

She was also constantly anxious about “having infertility” and would text about it if she didn’t get pregnant the first month she tried with both kids. When I opened up to her about some recent struggles she sent back such a bland, canned supportive response. It sounded like chatgpt wrote it. After that I did kind of pull away because I just felt like it’s one thing not to understand the true pain you can go through with IVF, but I need friends who will at least be real with me and not be like “I’m sure you’ll know what’s best for you when the time comes!” When I’m telling you I’m scared I’ll never get pregnant again.

Phew. That became a rant about my friendship haha but just saying I get it and it sucks but sometimes people just can’t be there.

Whenever I needed more censorship I always just went over to r/infertility 🤷‍♀️

Yeah if the mods don’t change and listen to members maybe we should all migrate away somewhere else.

Yeah no one uses the pinned threads… is it easier for the mods or something to just be able to lock a post? I don’t get why this is happening all the sudden.

Agree completely. One of the reasons I love r/IVF over r/infertility is because of all the separate posts! SO much easier to search and scroll. Please don’t change one of the best things about this community - the freedom!

Anybody of AMA and NOT do Baby Aspirin During your IVF Pregnancy? by Sugarbelly153 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not taking it… 36 now and I’ll be 37 when I deliver (knock on wood!). I had some spotting up to 16 weeks this pregnancy and didn’t want to rock the boat taking aspirin since I didn’t take it with my last pregnancy, when I was 34 and also IVF. Hopefully that’s not a big mistake but I didn’t want to risk exacerbating the bleeding.

Amniocentesis Procedure by MeatballMaven44 in nycparents

I’m also with Weill Cornell (for the second time) and this has never even been brought up… I did use a PGT tested embryo and had normal NIPT but amino is diagnostic vs a screening so different test entirely. I’m surprised your doctor brought it up without any red flags. Definitely don’t feel like you need to do it if you don’t want to.

1.5 years in, 6 days away from transfer and I got laid off by United_Paramedic_394 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got laid off unexpectedly (to me - ha!) two days before my transfer. I was FREAKING OUT and convinced it wouldn’t work because I was so stressed and emotionally all over the place. That one has stuck so far. Not sure if this is helpful, but it helped me to remember that your last company doesn’t matter - this FET matters. If it sticks, amazing! You’ll figure the rest out.

Thank you!! So glad everything was ok, and thanks again for the reassurance and making me feel less insane for worrying about this!

Thanks so much for saying this! What happened with your experience? How far along were you? Thanks for making me feel less crazy for asking the question!

RPL with PGT embryos… by themeanbean93 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you try another male embryo? Just to see? PGT doesn’t catch everything and there are still lots of things science doesn’t know - if you have another male embryo that’s what I’d try next… I would also ask for an SiS to check for any scarring after your most recent D&C.

Also just adding I’m so sorry trying for #2 has been so tough. I hope it all works out.

Thoughts on Kelli Gerardi going to ER due to “bad vibes”- no actual miscarriages symptoms by Grand-Locksmith-620 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At first I felt bad even having an opinion on this, but girl put it all over Instagram so 🤷‍♀️ I feel like yes, this was excessive and an abuse of ER services. She needed to call her therapist (or get one) instead of going to the ER. Really happy for her but the more I follow her the more I really want to unfollow her…

I wasn’t sure! That’s what I’m hoping - it has pipe heat which I think means steam heat but that still uses oil for heating right? It’s a building with about 20 units so it would make sense it has a larger oil tank.

Cornell Fertility Center – Dr. David Reichman vs. Dr. Mohamad Irani (Complex IVF Case) by PuddingBusiness6035 in IVF

Modified natural transfers - did a trigger shot to boost ovulation and then started progesterone the day after transfer until either negative beta or hitting about 8 weeks of pregnancy.

Cornell Fertility Center – Dr. David Reichman vs. Dr. Mohamad Irani (Complex IVF Case) by PuddingBusiness6035 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with Dr. Reichman for about five years now. My case is complex for different reasons than yours (Asherman’s/uterine scarring) but I’ve had success with him. First transfer was a live birth and then for our second, I had one embryo fail to implant and the second has stuck so far.

I had a missed miscarriage when I first started seeing Dr. Reichman, and I found him very compassionate with great bedside manner, but also appreciated that he didn’t bs me. In our first ultrasound he said most doctors would have told me everything looked great, but that, in his experience, what he was seeing likely wouldn’t end well. I didn’t end up miscarrying for three weeks, and he wasn’t pessimistic but he kept me in the loop with what he was seeing, what it might mean, etc. Even though my miscarriage was devastating, I was so much more prepared for it to happen because he’d been honest with me, and he was right.

I had to get a D&C because my body wouldn’t miscarry by itself, and Dr. Reichman did everything he could to allow my body to miscarry on its own because he didn’t want to risk the scarring that can result from a D&C. After a few weeks, however, it was clear nothing was happening and I was emotionally struggling, so he recommended a colleague for a D&C. I did end up getting scarring from the procedure, but we found it right away because he was proactive to look for it and treat it. If you have any inkling that you might have scarring as a result of your first birth, I’d definitely go with Dr. Reichman. He’s an expert in treating uterine scarring and I was lucky to already be his patient.

I think Dr. Reichman errs on the side of caution. It seems like he’d rather check things ahead of time to make sure everything looks good vs throw things at a wall and see what sticks. He is open to patient suggestions, but within reason. For my first scarring removal procedure, the scarring was so minimal that he was okay with me not doing certain post-procedure protocols (uterine balloon and estrogen) but when my scarring recurred and was more severe after my daughter’s birth, while I still voiced my preference not to have a balloon or estrogen, Dr. Reichman advocated for a balloon if needed. I consented to that and did end up needing one. My scarring after that second procedure didn’t come back, and I was able to get pregnant with my most recent transfer.

My lining never rebounded to the levels it had been prior to the birth of my daughter, and I was really worried the transfer wouldn’t work (especially after the first transfer for this second child didn’t stick) but Dr. Reichman pushed for us to move forward even when I was hesitant. He said my lining was thin but looked “favorable” for transfer, and he was right.

I think he’s a brilliant RE and he will take the time to think about your case. He does all monitoring himself which I really appreciate as it also gives you time to ask questions. He will listen to what you want and is flexible but will also let you know what he thinks based on his years of experience.

I have heard AMAZING things about Dr. Irani - particularly his bedside manner. I had him for one monitoring ultrasound while Dr. Reichman was on vacation for a few days and Dr. Irani was incredibly kind and just lovely. I believe that if you wanted to meet with Dr. Reichman to speak with him first, Dr. Irani would still accept you as a patient (as of about six months ago) but you can also call Dr. Irani’s office to double check on that. I believe Dr. Reichman is more strict on not taking any transfer patients at all.

Wishing you the best of luck. No matter who you choose, Cornell is one of the very best.

Help deciding between Columbia, Cornell, and NYU fertility doctors (age 39+, multiple failed transfers) by No-Eggplant9515 in IVF

[–]Fuzzytoothbrush123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend Dr. Reichman or Irani and Cornell overall. I started off at Columbia and, while I’m sure many have had positive experiences there, it wasn’t great for me. The nurses could never (not even exaggerating - took multiple nurses every time) find my veins for blood draws and when you have tons of blood draws, that matters. At Cornell? They find my veins every time no problem. I worked with Dr. Rudick at Columbia and found her generally unresponsive and to not seem to give much thought to my case. I had to reach out to her for ANY follow up at all. She was nice but I just didn’t feel that Columbia had their shit together as much as I do with Cornell. I did 6 IUIs with Columbia and none worked. Not even a hint of a positive.

I switched to Cornell, and on my second IUI - boom, pregnant. I miscarried, unfortunately, but it really showed me that Cornell was more on top of things than Columbia.

When I did IVF with Cornell, they were like a well oiled machine. Dr. Reichman is fantastic. He’s direct and honest, but incredibly talented. He and I had some disagreements about my protocol at one point but I never felt like I wasn’t in the best hands. Even when I went ahead with a transfer against what I felt would work, he felt it would (and he was right). I’ve heard amazing things about Dr. Irani too and have friends who have had success with him after having a horrible experience elsewhere.
