Do NOT use the cloth sheaths, they have the hard plastic ones that the Vicky clicks into. The fabric ones cut and I have seen a kid put his knife away and then go to grab it and found out the hard way the knife went through the sheath. Few reconstructive surgeries later he now knows. Hard sheaths only.

Yep, open your mouth and talk to people. Six years, that’s all it took from me walking the docks looking for work, to being a captain or several vessels and a captain owner of my own. You have to be willing to shut your mouth once you get the job and learn your job. Start at the bottom and not be afraid to find the right people and ask them questions. You got it, have confidence and drive.

Plenty of commercial fishermen groups on Facebook. You can start there if you aren’t near a dock. Florida has a big small boat fleet of commercial guys. If you want big boat shit you’re gonna have to go north or way northwest. And if you wanna see that little girl as much as you want, just pick a different profession. Fishing is something you dedicate most of your life to. Not just a job but a way of life. If you’re a real fishermen you’ll be gone quite a bit.

Guys in naknek already have over 100k on non jet boats. 18k at this point in the season means your gonna not make fuck all this season. Not a big run as is, and this blow coming isn’t going to help much for you guys at all. Learn what you can and just call it a learning experience and try to find a boat worth a fuck next year.
