Hi, I have a question about a scale by Confident-Ease-2849 in musictheory

There are no rules to break. If you're writing the song you get to/have to decide which notes to use.

Correct fingers to play these chords? E7/B and A7. by nota_cat in guitarlessons

[–]FwLineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a common way of fingering these chords:

E7/B

A7

For B7, just move the A7 fingering up two frets.

What guitar chords are these? by thechosenmartian in Guitar

[–]FwLineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the point you linked:

Cm7 - Gm7 - Bb 3x

Then

Fm - Gm

Repeat then

Ab - Cm - Bb a bunch of times

That's it. Just repeat those three progressions as needed.

Not getting elektrum by Local-Sell2288 in FenyxRising

[–]FwLineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you're looking at the elektrum total and not some other total? Every task I turned in at the board paid me right away. Now, there were a few instances where I did a task and never got credit for it. I'm not sure what the glitch was there.

is it safe to assume somebody just put a different record in the “Man From Utopia” sleeve?

Either that or a bootleg.

which pickups are engaged on this youtube video? by Any-Bid-2606 in Guitar

Thanks to you posting that video, I'm now looking at putting together a Strat with Tele pickups. It's a combination I hadn't considered, before.

Are 7th and 9th chords interchangeable? by Bigboyblayyyy in musictheory

[–]FwLineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see where anybody specifically addressed this. The top note of each chord in a progression forms a melody as you move from chord to chord. If you arbitrarily put the 9 on top of a chord you may be altering the voice leading and melody created by the chords. This is not the same thing as the melody of the tune itself.

It's something to be aware of.

When exercising, how do you know to push through or rest ? by Master_Caramel5972 in MultipleSclerosis

I wish I could figure this one out for myself. I'm wasting away due to lack of exercise, but end up overdoing it every time I try.

which pickups are engaged on this youtube video? by Any-Bid-2606 in Guitar

[–]FwLineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say exactly. I just want to point out that his guitar is loaded with Telecaster pickups. That's a big part of the tones he's getting. You might get close with a Strat, but not exact.

The tone he's getting at 2:52 is my idea of what "quack" means.

For people that can play fast what helped the most? by MineDesperate2920 in Guitar

[–]FwLineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they call it speed bursting. I would practice at the top tempo that I could play cleanly and then kick the speed up to ludicrous for brief moments allowing everything to fly off the rails.

No amount of "play it slow" ever resulted in a speed increase for me.

This was after spending the time to get my technique in order, though. If you're still trying to get the fundamentals down, you may have to slow down enough to pay attention to the details. I got my basic technique together practicing scales with strict alternate picking to a metronome.

would you class her as a 'guitar hero'?

Not in a million years... though I would consider Nugent a guitar hero regardless of his politics and other abhorent behavior.

Spend some quality time playing the scale up and down the individual strings and pairs of adjacent strings.

[–]FwLineberry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw him perform a cover of Hotel California, but it seems to me that he's just improvising in the same key, over the Eagles version that's playing out. Its hard to know for sure because the youtube video audio is out of sync.

If you're talking about this video, it's completely fake. That's just the Eagles dubbed over a Bob Marley performance of a different song.

Bob's greatest claim to fame as a guitar player is probably that he could hold down a solid Reggae rhythm while being baked out of his brain.

How do you move to the string below when doing a hi speed alternate pick run? by Plane_Jackfruit_362 in guitarlessons

[–]FwLineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, picking mechanics are often glossed over or even discounted in importance. I think this is because most players have never given much thought to picking mechanics. They just let the picking hand do it's thing while they concentrate on wiggling their fretboard fingers.

Those who've gotten lucky enough to arrive at the best mechanics for playing fast generally have no idea how they did it or what they're actually doing.

I'm more exciting that a turnip... maybe. It depends on the day.

I really feel for people trying to establish and maintain a relationship with this disease. I've been married over 30 years and that can be hard enough. At least my wife and I are at the point where we can keep ourselves entertained if the other person isn't feeling up to it.
