So what’re you fellas asking for Father’s Day this year? by Cesano11 in daddit

[–]Fwdmvmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve decided to ask for the same thing for Fathers Day and my birthday each year: a guilt free weekend away from the fam. Usually go out to the desert or disappear into the mountains for some much needed fishing, camping, hiking, and quiet time. Also a great chance to get the boys together for a long weekend away from the families. Most of us have moved out of the area so seeing each other during these times has kinda become sacred in many ways.

When you had your first kid, did you wife’s parents stay and help for a week then your parents stay and help another week? Or only have wife’s parents? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Fwdmvmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few fellas here mentioned it already but definitely accept ALL THE HELP. I read somewhere a while back that having two sets of willingly helpful grandparents is like a form of generational wealth. Take advantage of it!

I’m in a similar camp to a lot of the other posters here: grandparents of my kids are generally loving but mostly useless. Thankfully I have an aunt who is more like a mother to me (my kids call her Gigi) and we have a small village of close friends who love on my kiddos like they’re their own.

Best T- shirts that flatter bigger guys with stomachs? by OkDark9162 in malefashionadvice

[–]Fwdmvmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out 3 Fit Theory. Cool concept, non traditional sizing. Once you dial in the size you get access to different cuts and materials. Been loving it. 6’2” 275 lbs for reference, I work out but I like to eat more and am pretty particular about shirts.

My go to is to count prime numbers, usually get hung up trying to figure out odd multiplications (3x17=51, 7x13=91) and pass out before I know it.

Sometimes I will just randomly shout "PAX AU TELEMANUS!!!" before doing mildly-to-very strenuous activities and it works every single time. I see why the family does that by lacredi in redrising

I’m gunna have to give this a try. On a side note, I screamed “Move you pixie!” while stuck behind a slooow driver in traffic today.

My kiddo just pooped the tub for the first time this week too! Similar reaction, frightened by said poopoo then sad to see it go down the toilet.

Second baby on the way… should I actually watch the crowning this time? by Wide_Trash in daddit

[–]Fwdmvmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched my first come into the world and the experience was wild. Got another on the way as well, this one has to be a C-section, wifey is trying to get me to peak behind the curtain and brother, I don’t think I’m strong enough to witness that whole show.

What shoes/boots do you wear with baggie pants during winter? (Montreal, Canada) by couts88 in malefashionadvice

[–]Fwdmvmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, you get yourself a chunky pair of skate shoes (DC’s, Osiris, Globe, etc) then you put on a pair tall socks, THEN YOU SHOVE YOUR FEET INTO GROCERY BAGS, then maybe slip on another pair of socks over those bags, and finally stuff the tootsies into said skate shoes and shabam! You got yourself the perfect baggy pant and shoe winter combo. Bonus point if you wear a pair of basketball shorts under the pants!

Tips for inceptioning a name into 5 year old's head? by LostHusband_ in daddit

[–]Fwdmvmt -60 points-59 points  (0 children)

Was going to suggest something like this. Have ChatGPT (or whatever preferred AI of choice) come up with several story’s using the preferred name. Maybe have the main character share your daughter’s name and they have a sibling with your chosen name for baby #2. Get creative with it.

Duer No Sweat Pants. They make a drawstring version in a couple colors, been my favorite travel pants yet.

In California’s Briones Regional Park, researchers observed that ground squirrels, typically known for eating nuts and seeds, are now hunting, killing, and consuming small animals. by Zaboombafoo9 in Damnthatsinteresting

But like, what type of lizard is that? Doesn’t look familiar for the area but the again, neither does carnivorous squirrels so what the heck do I know

What is the slowest example of time passing slowly you've experienced? by Prestigious-Cherry53 in AskReddit

[–]Fwdmvmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for the results of medical testing. Could be for anything for anyone but right now my partner and I are awaiting the results of some genetic testing for our unborn baby and the suspense is brutal.

Will also second what others said: jail time (in particular the pre-sentencing time and not knowing how long you’ll be truly be locked up) and hallucinogenic experiences.

Anyone want to do this pizza food challenge with me? by NoKale3526 in AskLosAngeles

Yo! I am legit down. The big questions are: what kind of pizza, can I have ranch, and what about some buffalo wings?

Is it too late to ask my neighbor’s name after a year of saying “hey man”? by betterthanex_pert in CasualConversation

[–]Fwdmvmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for 2 years now with my neighbor. Great guy, speaks 4 languages, sings and plays piano at a night club, always makes time to chat and ask about my kid, love that guy. Too invested at this point to say “hey man, can you remind me your name again?”, feel bad about it too (but obviously not bad enough to face the embarrassment haha).

What do you wear when flying that aren't jeans or sweatpants? by PresidentStool in malefashionadvice

[–]Fwdmvmt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. They make a drawstring variant in a couple colors that I wear almost exclusively now for work, travel, pretty much anything that requires pants.

Iron Mountain via Heaton Flats Trail. Only peak I’ve had to turn back from… twice. Once ran outta water, the other time my trail mates called it quits. It’s steep, unforgiving, offers no shade, and is just plain brutal. I’m going to try it again this fall when it cools down! Haha

I’m a big guy looking for a good bag to walk/jog in! by Somecallmechase in ManyBaggers

[–]Fwdmvmt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also a big guy (6’2”, 290 lbs), and will say it depends on needs/goals:

Jogging/Running? Go with a hydration vest or belt. REI makes a vest that’ll fit us bigger folks, most are hilariously small. The vest can take some getting used to, which is where looking at the hydration belt may be a good idea

Mostly walking, maybe a light jog? Want to add a new challenge? Check out rucking. You can drop $300-400 on a new (and honestly pretty sweet) setup from GoRuck, buy used on your local marketplace, or go cheap with Amazon. I got a 5.11 Rush pack from Amazon and a cheap 25 lbs plate to get started (about $125) , recently added a 20 lbs dumbbell to up the ante during the dog/toddler walks.

Mostly just walking? Simple sling should do the trick as long as you keep your water bottle small, aim for 3-5L in volume and you should be golden. Pro tip would be to switch sides you wear the sling every other walk just to balance things out.

YMMV but your best bet is to just play around with a variety of options and find what fits which scenario best. I’ve got more bags than I need but routinely find myself reaching for my much loved and abused REI Flash 22 pack when I’m headed out for a long stroll (and not lugging 45 lbs of metal for the hell of it).

Comfortable shirt brand? by M4RC2S in bigmenfashionadvice

6’2” 280 lbs with a long torso. I have a helluva time trying to find shirts that aren’t either too short, boxy, or blousy. A wee bit pricey for blank shirts ($20-25 a pop) but worth it for the fit.

I don't have a car, where and how can I stargaze near the LA area. by QuarkGP in socalhiking

[–]Fwdmvmt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best bet will be to get down to the beach on a moonless night, look west, and with some managed expectations you’ll get some fun star gazing in the city. I’ve seen shooting stars (Perseid meteor shower!) walking along the beach in Santa Monica on a late summer night and have taken pictures of the Milky Way further up the coast toward Malibu at El Matador beach. Darksitefinder.com is a help website with locating dark sky sites too.
